The joy of British loans, you don’t have to pay them back until you are earning a certain amount (my mum has never paid hers)
Unfortunately this does not help any of you. Maybe just be optimistic?

Be optimistic and try to rely on scholarships unless a loan is needed? Which most likely it will.

UK Loan system versus the USA Loan system. Oh god USA Loan system can be atrocious.

Apply for many small scholarships. They add up. That same principle applies to many other things. Like in math, to solve bigger and bigger problems, we start by solving smaller problems.

Also in terms of living, none of y’all messing with Northern Virginia. Period.

^Hahaha I lived in N. VA until I was 3, then moved to southern VA.

I will also be casually hinting at my grandparents. I think my brother got a couple of thousand between them for his first year Obviously depends on your family situation, but worth a try

The amount of money people have in NOVA is ridiculous.

[Page 3 - The Richest Counties in America - TheStreet](http://www.thestreet.com/story/11415107/3/the-richest-counties-in-america.html)

Loudoun county especially.

Yeah, we lived in Arlington. I go up there every year over spring break to go to D.C and we stay in NOVA and it’s really different from down here. Traffic is so terrible, jeez. Rush hour in the mornings down here is a cow, 2 cars, and a tractor going 5 MPH.

I didn’t read through this entire thread so I don’t know what people have told you but seriously RELAX! lol you have a ton of time to figure out what you want to do with yourself. On top of that chances are you will change your mind a bunch of times, as a senior I JUST finalized my list in like October, after changing like a gazillion times. The only thing you could do now is explore your interests and get involved. You DO not need to know what you want to do or where you want to go. However, since you did mention NY and CA, start there. Look into liberal arts schools (esp. if you are undecided). If you REALLY want to, you could look by your state flagship to see what a college campus is like.

^no not California that’s ranked number 50. And anyone who goes to New York just does that for its name.

Not necessarily. I know a few people who are business majors or are into art and that’s why they come to NY. NY is the biggest business district in the country…

hahah Jazii, if you had read the whole thread you’d understand why he said that (hint: page 3)

oops… sorry xp

You guys got SO off topic… And I don’t know about you guys but I thought you could just get as many student loans as you want… My sister was only allowed 6K because of how much money my mom makes and we didn’t get any financial aid either… The school was 40k a year and my mom makes 100,000-120,000… Completely sucks, especially since I was planning to take alot out for college (my tuition is gonna be upwards of 40 if I go out of state… And I won’t get 80,000 dollars worth of scholarships like my sister)… I don’t see why you shouldn’t be able to especially if your career path is engineer or doctor or programmer or something

teaspoons;

You can take out as many PRIVATE student loans as you want. However if you you are talking about financial aid (which I don’t qualify for either so I know) then you ONLY get the 5500 stafford loan and everything else comes out of pocket.

Private loans come from banks, not the government- you can take out those without a problem (so long as your mom’s credit is good), you will be paying it back forever though with interest.
