@zebrarunner Congratulations on the JM acceptance!
@onpointe33 At my D’s NYU audition in NYC last Friday 20 were kept for solo’s and interview. I thought this was a large number. She said it was a talented group. She enjoyed the group solo environment and getting to see the other solos. Good luck! Hoping everyone finds a school that is a great fit for them!
Have a friend that has attended at performing and visual arts HS in texas for the past four years. They had reps from colleges with dance programs come to the school in november and did several auditions there. Found out last week that she was accepted into NYU tisch dance. Does going to a performing and visual arts high school give students the upper hand when it comes to auditions and also, how does it affect space requirements for tisch admission? Theres about 14 other students that had been accepted to NYU dance program by the end of the auditions at the school but had not heard about admission from the university.
@txgirl9457 I think going to a PA school could help depending on the quality of instruction. Since you are in Texas, I don’t know if you are talking about Booker T Washington, they have a great reputation on the caliber of instruction and their students seem to go to some great schools. I don’t think just bc you go to one wouldn’t mean you have a better chance, it still all comes down to technique and ability in the end. But I am sure there reputations might help a little bit.
I know when we were at Point Park, the director mentioned that they audition there and it definitely seemed to imply they are careful in their acceptance numbers during the rolling admission bc they still have auditions later in the season at BTW and LaGuardia in NYC. We auditioned in October at PP. So I would think that info is probably similar to NYU in that they typically give out a handful of offers to PA students.
Congrats @zebrarunner on your son’s acceptance to JMU!
@diglass @penandladle thank you so much for your response. But now that the dance audition part had been over, do you know what they look at now besides grades and such? For example, do they look over solos and the interview and how much do they weigh on the acceptance rate? I know this has been a lot of question, however we just want to know what to expect. Again thank you.
@txgirl9457 does that mean there are only 15 spots left in the program? And if my daughter hasn’t heard back yet, does that officially mean she didn’t get in?
@onpoint
@onpointe33 honestly, I don’t think there is any way to know what else they look at. If we knew that the whole process would be a lot easier. Sorry, but at this point I think we all just have to wait and see. Hopefully all of our dear children will be accepted to a program that is the best fit form them. Good luck!
@onpointe33 it does not mean that there is only 15 spots left. every student that was “accepted” to the dance program after auditions in november still had to be admitted to the university. It is a very unlikely chance that every student gets a dance admission and a university admission. the friend that found out last week applied early decision for NYU!
My D received a call from University of Arizona yesterday asking her to audition for a dance scholarship! :)))) I was wondering if anyone else received a call recently??? This was very unexpected and wondering how they got her cell. She is already committed to another university for dance. Yet, this was very nice validation!
We’re anxiously awaiting the remainder of D’s notifications, and am curious as to whether others have heard from any of them yet, or . D got 3 big envelopes in the mail last Saturday (2 acceptances and 1 financial aid), so that was a banner day and at least now she has more than one option. :-).
Here’s the status so far:
University of the Arts - Accepted, with decent scholarship
SUNY Purchase - Accepted, still awaiting financial aid info
PACE - Accepted w/scholarship academically, still waiting to hear about dance
Boston Conservatory - Still waiting
NYU Tisch - Still waiting
She did also apply to Univ of Az and got in academically but didn’t get into the dance program. She got great feedback from the other students while she was there, but I guess it wasn’t in the cards. She handled the news surprisingly well; in part, I think because she really loves NYC so is hoping to land there (Tisch is her dream school).
I’ve got another D who was a dancer through high school, but decided to to the business/IT route in college because she wanted to “make money”. The process is so different for an academic major - I think she had her decision made by February!
@zebrarunner Congrats on the JM acceptance!
@Rookie22 Congrats on acceptances and the scholarship call!
Has anyone heard from Pace yet? I saw on a different message board that someone heard of phone calls being made last week??
We are also still waiting to hear from Pace, Boston Conservatory, NYU/Tisch and Fordham/Ailey.
@nowmomto3 Just curious, what other message board?
Does anyone know any information about wait list for Pace University?
We’re also waiting to hear from BoCo. A friend who auditioned as a voice major was accepted earlier this week, but our dancer friends haven’t heard yet, so I guess the different divisions have different notification dates. We did get an email from them earlier this week, saying to save the date of 4/15: “Admissions results will be available soon for those who have completed their application. We are pleased to announce that this year, we will be hosting a Dance Division Accepted Students Day on Wednesday, April 15, 2015.” I can’t imagine that they would send an email like that to students who weren’t going to be accepted, would they???
@DanceHockeyMom my D got the same email from BoCo about accepted students day.
We had the same reaction, but who knows.
@diglass et al I just checked with my D and she has not received such an email so that sounds like possible good news for your dancers!
My D got the Accepted Students Day e-mail from BoCo as well. I haven’t even looked at the school yet (she’s gone in on her own to tour and audition as we’re MA residents), so that’s on my to-do list for the next few weeks if she gets in!
