***Class Of 2015 NMSF Qualifying Scores***

Question for some of the people who are losing sleep over the cut off:

What do you think you have riding on the NMSF? It is a good discussion to start.

@texaspg, I wouldn’t put myself in the category of “losing sleep,” but if my DS could possibly make NMS, then he could attend our state flagship for “only” the cost of room/board/incidentals. At least as of now, the NM Scholarship covers tuition, books and fees at our flagship. For our family, this would be huge. It’s possible that DS would ultimately decide to go elsewhere - but DH & I are the ones pushing that idea, just so DS could branch out a bit. DS would be perfectly happy to attend our flagship. And it would be hard to turn down that kind of deal, espc because DS has 3 younger siblings and we will not be eligible for financial aid - at least as of now. So that’s the importance to our family + it would help ease my worries about paying for college. We lost significant savings in 2013 due to medical bills not covered by insurance, so money is very tight for our family. I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

It will also help when we have DS’s SAT scores (Feb 13 release) and ACT scores (test tomorrow) in-hand. He may still be able to obtain good scholarships at our flagship & elsewhere, even if he does not make NMS. So I keep trying to remind myself of this.

Agreed, good discussion to pass the time. However, I was sure looking forward to those state summaries, and I’m now under the impression that they do not come out with the national summary that was released today. :-(

I raised the question because NMSF is great for some schools not the only game in town for merit money although I can see a state flagship giving a full ride is quite attractive. There are many schools out there which give out tuition waivers based on high SAT/ACT scores + good GPA (pretty much all schools in Alabama). It is important to focus on the kids doing well in SAT/ACT tests so they can see other opportunities. This is what parents can do between now and September.

According to the 2014 thread similar to this one, the state summaries DID come out last year some time in February. Are people expecting that to change this year?

I think we will see the state summaries soon. A reading of the info currently available on the College Board website indicates that state summaries should be there, so I think they just aren’t uploaded yet but will be soon.

As far as predictive value of what we have so far, not much in my opinion, since the average doesn’t tell us much about the top. But the Texas cutoff seems to go down when the average goes down. I looked at those numbers a few weeks ago. I don’t remember how consistent that was. What I have been hoping to see, for my son who tied last year’s cutoff, is the national average decreasing and the Texas numbers in the 75-80 and 70-74 percentile ranges decreasing. So the lower average is a good start!

Okay, who is going to call the College Board and tell them to post the State Summaries?

I called them yesterday. They said they are still being worked on but will definitely be posted before the end of February. Not sure why it’s taking so long this year!

Oh, thanks for taking that step Greatfalls! I wouldn’t have known who to call. I was hoping for data to study while housebound with our pending snow storm, but I guess not. I’m getting excited!

I just contacted the College Board folks in NYC that is on their website.

Yay, Greatfallsmom! While I was wondering when it would be posted, you just made the call! I’m laughing at your post ProcrastiDad, and thinking based on your user name, you were unlikely to call any time soon! :-*

Yes Barfly. I thought about calling, but kept putting it off.

LOL – I’m glad somebody made the call! But I never took stats so I’m also hoping someone here is good at predicting the trends from the state data that will hopefully be released soon!

I figured as much. I myself was just hanging out at the bars.

My comment above was in reply to ProcrastiDad. But, being a BarFly and all, I was too hungover to reply in a timely manner. Cheers.

Oh no, the extended wait it making everyone delirious!

Or just making everyone MORE delirious! I am eager to see the state reports, but I think the decrease in the 2013 mean scores shown on the CB website is a good sign! Feeling optimistic! Maybe because the sun is shining, finally, after weeks of cold drizzle. (Hope all of you dealing with snow will see the sun soon as well.)

Yes, please do send that sun our way! Though not all at once, as folks are already worrying about our next round melting too quickly, and causing problems of its own.

No school tomorrow means I’d LOVE to have some state data to digest!

Now I’m starting to feel sorry for you cold souls, Here in southern California weather is near perfect. Water supply? Not so good.

Very cold rain but not freezing here in the FL Panhandle but we had three “snow days” 2 weeks ago! Track practice cancelled but school marches on!

Very glad this cold rainy year to be watching S3 play basketball indoors, after years of watching S2 play soccer. Both are winter sports here. Soccer season in Texas usually has some cold games, but this year must be miserable for the fans and players. Track is next for us but maybe it will warm up before the first meet.
