Class of 2015 transfer into Penn

Hi all,

I am a current undergraduate at a top 15 US university. While I am happy here, it was my dream before college to go to UPenn and it still is. I had pretty good stats in high school but not Penn caliber (33 ACT, 3.8 GPA, various small leadership positions but nothing really stand out) and thus did not apply. I want to transfer into Wharton as a sophomore. I know this is an uphill battle and I am willing to do whatever possible to maximize my chances of getting in.

From what I understand the 3 most important things in deciding who gets in are essays, college GPA, and extracurricular involvement. While I am a white male and do not have anything completely amazing to write about, I am an excellent writer and I think I could pull off really solid essays. I think I can pull a 3.8-3.9 GPA this semester (I am in the business program at my school) and hopefully something similar next semester. My extracurricular involvement will be limited but meaningful (I hope). Also since the transfer deadline is March 15 does that mean I only have one semester of work to show them?

I did have a few significant business/monetary related accomplishments throughout high school, are the essays focused on high school, college or both? And does being from a top 15 college help me out?

Also does when I apply matter? It opens January 1 so if I apply right away would that make a difference?

Does it look like I have a decent shot or not? ANY insight or comments would be appreciated, especially from current transfer students.

I have no financial need if that matters.

message me specific EXACT stats if you want a real answer. And where you are at school, and what level of courses you are taking. Financial need does not matter at Penn… they supply all of their students with the loans they need and are “need blind” aka do not take it into account at all when you apply. Extracurricular involvement matters a lot, but it needs to be something that has made an impact in your life, not a club anyone can sign up for and just get credit for being a part of. I’ll tell you more just message me…

bump…

You should really post more specific stats in order to get an accurate “chance”. Your HS stats look solid enough to justify them accepting you but you really need to do a significant amount of stuff in college too in order to become a competitive candidate, and Wharton - for anyone - is a real crapshoot.
