I got a likely letter from UChi. :)

Does anybody know how important the midyear transcript is for scholarships if you apply EA? Any chance they will rescind a scholarship if you get one or two B’s first semester of senior year?

Congratulations. Traditionally merit scholarships have been awarded by Faculty Committee based on AdCom recommendations in March to allow review of all applications (and midyear reports to come in). Nondorf has new ideas (e.g. the likely letters) to get a head start on the competition so the timing may change for the merit awards as well. Once awarded, I doubt a couple of B’s will be cause for withdrawal of a scholarship.

Jumper what are you stats?

I’m just curious :)

Jumper, was it an email?

I realllllly hope I get in! :)

Curious, Jumper…on 11/14/10 you said you got into U of C…thought you must have been a current student then. How does it happen you said you were in on November 10 and now you say you got a likely letter…odd???

Ahhhhh I’m so nervous!!!

^^^No, it was a letter in the mail.

I applied fairly early and got the letter in the beginning of November. Here’s what it says directly, “I am pleased to extend you a provisional invitation to join the class of 2015. As long as you maintain your current level of performance in school…you can expect to receive your official admission letter this coming December” I assumed I would get my acceptance letter since my grades haven’t changed. Does that answer your question flyboy?

I’ll PM you WAN9STA

I am also curious what your stats are.

HOLD UP PLEASE SOME OF U CLARIFY

Uchicago gives out likely letters, even for early rounds??? if yes, when did ya’ll receive those??? ■■■■ i feel so bad right now cuz i didnt get one

yeah also jumper, do you mind telling me some of your stats???

ALSO GOES BACK TO LAST THREAD
who HAS gotten likely letter? I just wetted my pants like 10 times in the last 5 min after i found out uchicago freaking gives likelies in early round…

i didnt get one omg ogm ogamdssaj;lkfsjdalsakjsalksdjfsal;jfdsalkfjdsl

Calm down, its for a selected few (usually recruited athletes and a few academic superstars) who are extremely qualified for Chicago. Based on previous posts, it seems as if Jumper is an athlete (basketball, if I’m not mistaken). Most ppl who get in don’t get likely letters: it doesn’t mean ur rejected. Or it could be trolliing ur ■■■■■■■■ lol (jk)

Jumper’s other posts indicate that he is a recruited athlete, which likely explains why he got a likely letter. It’s good for him but it doesn’t affect anyone else’s chances. No need to worry about not getting a likely letter.

I, however, am worried anyway :)

^ aren’t we all Grape, aren’t we all… XD

Definitely don’t worry about not getting a likely letter. Each sport gets only 1-2 likely letters sent out depending on the size/prestige of program.

For anyone who is an athlete looking at UChi/likely letter route, my stats briefly: top 20-30 in the nation for my sport (not basketball), 34 ACT, 800/800 SAT II, 4.0 UW

BTW, I’m a girl and I’m not ■■■■■■■■.

pwew thats good. I turned my app in on november 1st lol so i guess that wasnt fairly early

My bad… on some level my mind must believe that jumping is a masculine activity and I drew a hasty conclusion from there without even realizing it. Curious, really.

Jumper would be a pretty competitive applicant even without being an athlete. I guess that’s something of a strike against the assumption that recruited athletes always drag the class stats down.

Anyway, how many people consider U Chicago their first choice right now? I’m torn between there, Swarthmore, and Carleton now because they’re all far away from where I live and I haven’t been able to visit yet. Certainly leaning in the direction of U Chicago though.

dang jumper…im guessing you do some event in track and field, maybe long jump? :D

but dang thats nice stats…even for NON athletes. since ur like top 20-30 in nation for w/e you do…haha i hope im not too far in saying youre looking at some nice acceptances, harvard’s a match too…

but for other ppl
IF YOU GOT A LIKELY PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE POST UR STATS, much appreciated. :D

btw how do we check our acceptances? email or do we just log back in to the site that we did at the beginning to make sure chicago got all our stuff?

I was thinking this, but it’s a little rude to interrogate highly ranked athletes about their sport on a site that’s supposed to be confidential. There are quite a few people on CC who can be discovered via some web searching because their accomplishments are so distinguishing. No offense collegeftw, because I’m sure you’re not doing this on purpose, but if I was a long jumper ranked between 20 and 30 I would be hesitant to reveal that information.

To answer your question, I am pretty sure that we will receive emails stating that our decision has been made. We will then check our U Chicago accounts online, and letters will be sent in the mail as well.
