Class of 2016: EA/Regular decision discussion

just goes to show how no one is a “lock” anymore for admissions at georgetown…

wow, its really shocking @goalstop. how you got rejected. you have everything! some people with less credentials are getting accepted. and majority of the people on here (topnotch) are getting deferred. this is really…wierd.

@Mdee95 I completely agree. I was absolutely shocked I got in. One of the first things I said after I stopped screaming and crying was “what’s wrong with these people? Why the hell did I get in?!” Its obviously so much more than tests scores (albeit I’m a half-black female so I’m sure that helped me).

^If you have any black in you, you can get in with significantly less credentials as everybody else. Affirmative Action is what is wrong with them lol Congratulations, though.

For curiosity’s sake, what were your stats?

@wizkid94 33 ACT 4.2 GPA I’d argue I’m not “significantly” less, but yes, I don’t doubt that it helped. I’ve also spent summers at college at Georgetown and Stanford.

you people are making me nervous!!! everyone seems to think I’m a “lock”, but they just don’t understand how capricious admissions can seem sometimes…

@barbieprincess94: i’m assuming you haven’t gotten your letter either? the wait is killing me!!

You got a 33… You are not signifcantly less. Your ACT is above average. Quit wondering why you got accepted. lol

I don’t see how California has gotten letters but I’m in the middle of the country and I’m still waiting!!! I’m so nervous… I pray they look past my scores because that where all my competitiveness lies

I’m rural so that might be the reason, but geez I plugged in my zip code and georgetown’s zip code into usps and it said monday!
No I was on pins and needles all day…

ok so everyone who is waiting for a letter:

I found out my letter was at home while i was at school and i was freaking out… i really didnt think i would get in… so i went to our college guidance office and was like i dont think ill get in and ill be really upset so can you please update your records now and say i got deferred unless i email you otherwise… and the registrar started laughing and was like you got in…

SO GO ASK YOUR SCHOOL BECAUSE THEY KNOW!

congrats to everyone else who got in… i know im like crazy excited, as i can imagine all of you are :)

im in jersey and i still haven’t heard! tomorrow :/

I wish they actually were accepting applicants with less credentials like me…

haha… my school took 3 weeks to get my nms stuff. (and they only “found it” once I asked) so asking really isn’t an option.

Stressing in Washington State; I guess I’ll hear tomorrow.

Deferred from Georgetown College (Massachusetts). 2220 SAT (750 CR, 740 M, 730 W), low SAT II’s (US History, Spanish, Literature, all between 650-700). GPA: 3.9. School doesn’t rank but top 10%. 5 AP classes (Psychology 5, US History 4, Physics, Calc AB, Spanish Language, no tests yet for last 3). 4 years each XC, Indoor Track, and Outdoor Track (3 years varsity for each- XC captain). National Honor Society, Peer Tutor, Peer Counselor. Have been in Boy Scouts for 7 years, very close to earning Eagle Scout. I’m currently leading an Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project with over 600 hours of community service alone. Personal essay was excellent I thought, really personal and showed a side of me the rest of the application didn’t. Short essay described my project and what it taught me about leadership. Georgetown College essay was probably similar to many others’, not bad though. Amazing counselor recommendation, didn’t read my teachers’ but probably pretty good. White male, applied for financial aid, no hooks.

I’ll be honest, I knew my grades and SAT II’s were a little subpar, but especially after hearing how Georgetown doesn’t put as much emphasis on the scores, I thought my essays and extracurriculars would put me over the top. I guess being a 3-season athlete for four years and an Eagle Scout wasn’t enough. Looking around CC I haven’t seen any other Eagle Scouts applying to Georgetown. I guess this is just how competitive the school is. This stings quite a bit.

Retake SATII’s. Don’t lose hope. You still have a better chance to get in with the second round than most others deffered. The acceptance rate for early action was only 15%.

I GOT IN

I don’t know how on earth it happened, but it did

@seren- STATS please!
and CONGRATS!

Who has the lowest ACT/SAT that got in? Everything I’ve seen has been very high.
