Class of 2017: Senior schedules?

Forgive me if there’s already a thread on this, I searched several terms/phrases/words and couldn’t find anything. Those who are going to be seniors next school year, what do you think your schedule will look like? I’m thinking mine will be:

APs (2 trimesters): USH, Lang, Stats, HuGeo
Half-credits (1 trimester): Human anatomy, creative writing, mass media, sociology
Other: Bel canto choir (3 trimesters)

I REALLY wanted to take WWII Perspectives, but it was between that and Anatomy, and I thought having 3.5 credits of science would look the best to colleges. I also hear the teacher for WW2P is boring and gives out a lot of busy work, so I’ll probably find a class like it in college.

Anyone else?

Sorry to butt in, but before this thread kicks off, I’ll tell you all to pursue your passions, not the “AP” label. @gm0724 It really depends on your major of choice/what you’re passionate about. If you like anatomy and/or wish to pursue something that involves anatomy, do anatomy. The same for the latter. If World War II Perspectives is what you’re truly interested in, go for it. Someone who pursues their passions is much more interesting to a college.

That being said, is there no full-year, 4th science at your school? Generally it is what is recommended, but it varies by school. So if your school only requires/recommends x amount of sciences and you have completed that recommendation/requirement and find a course you would much rather take than that science, then go for it. Just be careful with all of your colleges’ requirements.

But, to all as a blanket statement, pursue your passions, not the bells and whistles. Have fun with your senior schedules.

-Wandering '16-er who has made regrettable scheduling mistakes.

Oh, all the AP courses I’m taking are ones I want to take. And my electives are ones I’ve wanted to take since freshman year, so I’m very excited.

I was going to take WW2P and Anatomy next year (I’ve taken physical science, bio, and am in Chem right now) but then my counselor said I really should take 4 years of math - this messed with my credits. (In an ideal world I’d take anatomy and WW2P.) Since I hate “traditional” math (Precalc? Hahaha nope), I figured I’d try stats.

All of my top colleges offer some sort of WWII class so I have no problem with taking it then. With all my humanities courses, I’d like to balance out my senior schedule just a bit. I want to take anatomy because it’s really interactive and in depth at my school, and everyone has a body…why not learn about it?

I feel like I’d do better with such an in depth and personally challenging course (I’m not a sciencey person but I enjoy it) with the extra support of high school. On the other hand, history and English come so naturally to me that I could live without that extra padding in a college WW2 class. Does that make sense?

I totally agree with you @XoXdreamerXoX ! Thank you for your insight and advice. Rest assured I’m very excited about next year’s schedule and don’t feel too obligated to take any class.

I’ve got my schedule down though it may change if I can’t get into all of them. Here it is:

AP Lit
AP Stats
AP Comp. Sci. Principles
AP Chemistry (2 periods)
Spanish 4
Sales & Advertising/Marketing
Art Fundamentals (Because Berkeley wants it)

I’m really conflicted between these two options:

AP Lang
AP Spanish
AP Calc BC
Honors Physics
American Gov/Economics
Choir

Philosophy

AP Lang
AP Spanish
AP Calc BC
Honors Physics
American Gov/Economics
Choir
Honors Anatomy

While the second option is more rigorous, and anatomy is in line with what I want to study in college (neuroscience), I really like the first option because I really want to take philosophy, and honestly, I don’t know if I’ll be able to handle two science classes.

I’ll probably be doing

AP Lit (taking Lang this year)
AP Calc BC
AP Physics C
AP Govt/Econ
AP Spanish

The last four I’ll for sure be taking, but I’m not sure if it’s worth it to take AP Lit. Also, I have no idea what electives I should take.

@photogeek8 I would go with the second one. It shows that you’re interested in your major

@neoking if you like English, you’ll like AP lit. I absolutely love it! What is your favorite subject, or the major you’re planning on getting? I’d take any electives that have to do with that subject or major. I’m planning on majoring in journalism and I’m taking all of the English electives that my school offers as well as sociology .

I think mine will be something like:
AP Lit
APUSH II
AP World
World Religions
Creative Writing Honors/Journalism (1 semester each)
Calculus Honors
I’m not sure about my last course…it’s between Spanish 4 Honors, AP Psych, and AP Art History.

Mine:
AP Chemistry classes (obligatory in my school curriculum, but I will definitely not do the test)
what helps in my potential majors:
AP Physics
AP Computer Science
AP Calculus
community service
an astrophysics course
and I have some big computer science projects to be culimated so I hope this would be a good boost.

I’m planning to start some of these classes the second term this year, though. Specially AP Comp Science

@astar99 Just curious…what do you guys do in APUSH II? APUSH is designed to cover all the content within a year

@tigerman333 Yeah, at my school they split it into two full year classes. You take APUSH I as a sophomore or junior, and the course covers up to 1877. Then as a junior or senior, you take APUSH II and start from 1877 onward, then take the AP exam after that

@astar99 that’s pretty cool! It sounds like there’s less pressure to cram everything in and you can go more in depth.

@gm0724 Yeah, I like it a lot better this way. Honestly I’m so used to it this way that I can’t imagine how fast you’d have to go to fit it all in a year.

Mine

  1. Trig/prob-stats
  2. Gov/econ
  3. AP Environmental Science
  4. Advanced Video Production
  5. Philosophy/Thanatology

    6.(MAYBE): Appreciation of the arts

@astar99 that would have been so much nicer. We never ended up learning the last 50 years of history which led me to get a 2 on the exam :frowning:

Ok so here’s a few of mine:

OPTION 1:

  1. AP Biology
  2. AP Calculus BC
  3. AP French Language and Culture
  4. AP Language and Composition
  5. Wind Ensemble (Band)
  6. Piano/Art and Design
  7. Marching Band

OPTION 2:

  1. AP Biology
  2. AP Statistics
  3. AP French Language and Culture
  4. AP Literature and Composition
  5. Wind Ensemble
  6. Art and Design/Drawing I
  7. Marching Band

OPTION 3:

  1. AP Biology
  2. AP Calculus BC
  3. AP French Language and Culture
  4. AP Language and Composition
  5. Wind Ensemble
  6. Astronomy/Piano
  7. Marching Band

*7th hour is only .5 of a credit as my school technically doesn’t have a 7th hour,

AP Lit
AP Comp Sci
Astronomy (LOL, idk wat science to take yet)
Logic & Number Theory
AP Microecon?
Health & Speech (1 class)
APES
Some PE course
Some other half semester course
Either Modern Physics or Advanced Organic Chemistry

Im not really sure yet, I have a general idea, but it seems to be less rigorous than my junior year

AP Lit OR 12th grade Language Arts
AP Chemistry
AP Micro Econ and Health (required)
Video Production 1 & 2 (fulfills art requirement)
Differential Equations
Discrete Math or some other college level class
Accounting?? and AP Macro Econ?? OR AP Bio??

I liked accounting. It’s a good class.
