I called admissions, and they won’t view it as a new applicant. They will view the applications as updated and will be familiar with the applicants if that makes any sense.

Has anyone submitted the supplement yet?

I filled out the grades part but I’m not sure what I’m going to add - if anything - for the additional information part. Nothing worth noting has really changed on my resume. I haven’t won any awards or competitions or anything since January. The directions are a little confusing, it says you can “explain why you feel Tech is a good fit for you” - which I was going to do in a paragraph or so - but then it says do not write an additional essay. Isn’t that basically the same thing?

I feel like this whole wait list thing is a lost cause anyway based on how impossible it is to get accepted off it.

@yankeesfanatic

I’m a little bit confused as well, but I’m guessing they don’t want us to write like a separate college essay that is irrelevant to the topic-“why you feel Tech is a good fit for you”. It’s just telling us to stay on topic I guess? I’m not so sure…

To be honest, I don’t really think it matters. I think they have a pretty good idea who they’re going to accept if they have room and unless you’ve won some national science competition since you sent out your app it doesn’t matter what you write in that little box.

Hmmm… You really think so? Ah I haven’t gone to any competition or won anything either in my senior year. It really does sound like they have a pretty good idea of who they are gonna pick without having to read additional paragraph.

Yankees - I would still write the paragraph. You don’t know. Perhaps in the end it will come down to someone who wrote the paragraph and someone who didn’t. Good Luck!

when we are putting down grades for supplemental should I put my current course average(1st semester averaged out with current 2nd semester grade)? my school does semester grades

Anyone willing to update us on how many spots are left and etc by the time May 1st hits?

^ I don’t know. But someone posted something on another tread that seemed to say that last year they didn’t take anyone off the waitlist. I’m not sure if that is correct or not… I think if I were on the wait list I would want to know how many others were on it and what the average number of people they took off the wait list was.

I believe last year they didnt take anyone till beginning of summer. They mentioned in the FASET that 3000+ accepted and paid deposit for about 2800 seats.

Last year they took 43 students out of the 650 (6.6%) who accepted the wait list offer.

<a href=“BigFuture College Search”>BigFuture College Search;

Past years:

Offered waitlist/accepted waitlist/admitted from waitlist/% admitted
2009-2010 450/320/123/38%
2008-2009 184/98/92/94%
2007-2008 177/118/3/2.5%
2006-2007 504/293/156/53%
2005-2006 426/208/102/49%
2004-2005 N/A (not sure if no statistics available or no waitlist offered)
2003-2004 163/85/35/41%

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/georgia-institute-technology/902415-gt-waitlist-statistics.html

So as you can see, the percentages for acceptance off the wait list range from 2.5% to 94%.

Straight from the wait list e-mail:

“As has been the case in previous years, we will be able to tell you with certainty by June 1 if we will be able to offer you a spot in the freshman class.”

My guess is that offers, if there are any this year, will start going out first week of May and last until June 1st.

Didn’t they post on the wait list page that they offered wait list to 2000 people this year? That’s like the double the number from last year… ah

I have a good feeling that GT is only going to pick up a handful from the waitlist this year.

Also, does anyone know the stats for 2011 for those admitted that were on the waitlist. I mean the number of people accepted vs. the people on accepting the spot.

Just got an email from Georgia tech saying that more than 1700 people joined their wait list. Hmm… That’s like triple the size from last year!

^ I would think they must have offered the waitlist to more people than in years past because they thought a larger number of the people that were accepted EA/RD will decline. Otherwise it kind of doesn’t make much sense.

S withdrew his WL application today. The less competition the better, right? Good luck to all of you. Such a great school, so little space.

Bump!!!

Is GT going to send us an email/call if we don’t get accepted from the waitlist? I’m pretty nervous. Lol

when does gtech notify waitlist applicants?
