Waitlist candidates, what is the possibility in G.Tech 2022 ?

Decision : Waitlisted

In -State, 300 miles from Atlanta

Major : CS
SAT 1370
GPA 3.92 UW
APs : 8 including Calculus, all between 4 & 5

If anybody has the data about % of last year 2021 pick from waitlist.

I saw somewhere where (don’t remember, I think CC) that around 4000 are offered a spot (in years past) on the waitlist, 2500 accept, and 25-40 actually get admitted. I was also waitlisted (instate female, 34 ACT, top 1% of class, 12 APs neuroscience).

I wonder how they decide the order of accepting people off waitlist, is it based on major or stats… idk?

BEST of luck!

GT admitted only 7300 (23% acceptance) last year and really had no wait list admissions. 2800 enrolled (38% yield ).

This year for some odd reason they have admitted 700 more (!) kids to nearly 8000 (22% acceptance). Which would be 3000 enrolled (38% yield ). GT targets 2900 acceptances expecting 2800 to enroll after “summer melt”.

A few years back they did this (offered 8000) and ended up with 3300 enrolling, way over what they wanted.

It doesn’t really make any sense unless:

  1. they admitted a bunch of super high stats kids that they don’t expect to accept the offer.
  2. the 700 extra included are the GA students that are accepted “conditionally” in their “Arts & Science Pathway” program… most of which will not matriculate.
  3. they are growing the undergraduate class size.

Do this mean that they likely won’t be accepting anyone off their waitlist?

@suk and @MEC1026 I don’t have the waitlist numbers from 2021, but the Director of Undergraduate Admissions at GT has a very informative blog and he did a 3-part blog on being waitlisted at GT in March 2016. Make sure you look at parts 2 and 3 as well and I hope this helps.

I don’t know what they are doing. If the 8k number is true, they will be over enrolled by a couple hundred.

Unless they are playing a numbers game with news stats… the 8000 number could include conditional admissions… it’s a political thing to get the state govt off their back. Tech now claims to admit 60% of GA applicants (40% offered + 20% conditional).

Seeing the lack of statistical detail is suspicious. Past reports on admissions had a lot more info.

Last year they had “minimal” (10s) waitlist admissions.

Does the 8K number include those admitted for Summer 2018? These were not conditional admissions, but those admitted cannot opt to start in the fall.

I was waitlisted. Instate Asian male, 30min from Atlanta. 34 ACT, 1420 SAT, hecka ECs, and 11 APs.

Also CS and deferred from EA. Out of a waitlist just to be placed on another.

I called and talked to GT admission office, waitlist decision date pushed back to 15th June 2018.

@Sukb any other info?

@SaltyPeanut, Not much, only, in-state candidates get primary consideration off the waitlist.
