Class of 2018 ( From Nepal )

Thank you @batuli
Do you know what amount of grant did they receive?

@sixstringsrocker Can you clarify me the difference between reach schools, match schools and safety schools?

Have you guys decided on you ED college?

If I am not mistaken, there are a few Nepali students in Colgate.

Do you guys have an idea how much does class rank affect being accepted to a college
Like if I’m not in top 20% will that have a heavy impact on my application
Any suggestions will be appreciated :slight_smile:
@seniors
The things about app waiver
If I say like I can pay $1500 in my financial aid and ask for app waiver will that have contradictory outcome like admission officers telling
He says he can pay $1500 but he also says he needs waiver for $50 app and might not consider my application

Colleges usually state class rank as a ‘very important’ factor during selection but of course, it is not the sole criteria. 1500 is actually a heavily reduced amount so I dont think there should be a problem with asking for a waiver, but im not too sure abt that.

@blackwhite 12

At least tuition waiver.

Regarding the definition of safeties:

Many students went to the colleges that I had mentioned in #177 and, as I have mentioned earlier in this post, they received at least full tuition waiver in most cases. That what safety college is: Provides Good Aid and also is easier to get admission.

My opinion is that every other colleges except safeties colleges like I have mentioned in the list earlier( post 177 that is) are Reach College. There exists no college like match college for us. Remember, every college is reach! Very very capable candidates joining the safety colleges or taking a gap year/ second gap year or starting to read here in Nepal itself tells the reason why!( go figure it out!)

Hey guys, Is TOEFL really required if you have studied a-levels? I contacted five colleges and all of them said that it wasnt required for me

@androbot

No it does not happen that way. Many liberal arts colleges and top notch national universities are flexible with application fee; they either do not have application fees for international students or waive application fee in request of your counselor.

There are ,however, some national private and state universities which may require application fee at any cost.

I do not think here is anyone who recalls paying application fee to the liberal arts college and some top notch national universities they applied.

@mumford07 : I know a guy who was selected to Syracuse. (WIthout TOEFL) At the end when he was given i-20, the university asked him/her to go for TOEFL and submit scores before the VISA interview. He recklessly did everything but however he manged finally. SO I suggest you do do TOEFL to avoid problems later. have fun

You think getting 2200+ in pratice tests and USEF pretests can really get you 2200+ in the real test? NO…a big NO…I used to get 2250+ while practicing and got only 1900 in the real test (twice). Did you attend the get inspired session of the harvard guy (the one who got into MIT, Stanford and other big schools)? He got 2300+ in pratice tests and ended up with around 2040.

Maybe … @Nepalibadaar anyway thank you for ur suggestion, and remember not all are the same, :smiley: have fun l)

I took four practice tests: 1990 on the first (though this was done in a very lazy fashion as it was a diagnostic test), 2170 on the second, 2090 on the third and 2280 on the fourth.

I got a 2260 on the real thing, which could have been 2300+ had I not screwed up the math section. Therefore, please don’t make such bold generalizations (“NO”) using personal experiences. It’s not nice to demotivate others you know, that too with very poorly supported arguments (if you could bring about 10+ similar experiences then perhaps they would be more convincing). That dude’s acceptances do not make his experience with the SAT any more significant than any other person taking the SAT out there.

@Phan-------------- : Thank You for the suggestion and maybe I need more practice an d 1.5 months is way big :smiley: any way thank you so much … I highly appreciate your suggestion :D

So, how many of you go USEF regularly??

I go there regularly…

Not so much
But I try to attend the get inspired series though have been missing alot of them lately :frowning:
By the way do you remember the college that came to USEF last month?

Anyone khave idea about essay?/

ill be applying for the class of 2018. i’ll be applying to liberal arts college and i desperately need suggestions!

@confidential2014 what topic did u choose?

I know a dozen of people who have got 200 points less than their practice test scores. You would have to be an RBS student if you want to get what you got in your pratice tests. And you said Broad Generalization and demotivation?? I know what I’m talking about. It’s a truth, that might hurt people. But, it’s damn true. This is Nepal, not a country where students have a good knowledge of English (SLC ko English paper bata thaha huncha how pathetic our English syllabus is). Math ma high score lyauna sakincha, tara the other two sections will kick our ass.
However, @adayin, all the best to you and hope you actually get a 2200+ score. I hope you prove my wrong. I hope you stand out of the norm :D
