were you denied admission last year? and woah, how many people on here are taking a double gap year?

150

There are people who complain and make excuses, and there are people who work hard and succeed.

@androbot, the CCRC guy did not have stellar SAT scores. and it is hard to get high scores in SAT if you are not from RBS. It’s rare to see students who have got 2200+ and are not from RBS.

i’m not from RBS… but really? do the majority of rbs students really all get 2200+'s?

FACT (Including below grade 10 and 11+12)
BNKS: Almost every competitive (I don’t like to use the word ‘top’) university and college in US know about this school. So, they are not in a risk to accept these students. And students are pretty good too.

St.Xavier’s: Same as above , may be because it’s a global network of missionary schools. Community Service is really good here.

RBS: Students appear exam for two boards. One is SLC and the other is IGCSE (I think). So, they have a better command over English than most other schools’ students do. Can pay a lot, mostly 10k+. I have even heard someone paid around 43k. School is recognised, so US colleges are risk free to take the students from RBS. They know about the application process well in advance (junior/senior year).Community Service is really good here.

Trinity College: Rising School. Has a huge prospect of sending students to top schools. GC studied in the US, so he gives the best counselling.

Chelsea: One student gets in somewhere and this is publicized for 5+ years. Many students go abroad, but in terms of % of high scoring students, it sucks.

Schools that suck at sending students to good colleges::: LA, GEMS (GIHE), Nobel, United, Prasadi and many more…

But the bottom line is, one does not have to go to a big name school for UG. Go to a school where you can succeed and then aim for big schools for Graduate studies.
Name of our high school does matter a lot. But, if we can show them we are awesome, the college will definitely want us.They won’t look at the name of our high school. Ultimately, it’s us who they want, not our high school.

but don’t all these schools offer A Levels? A Levels are standardized exams. so why would colleges distinguish between students who score similarly in the exams but are from different schools?

plus i don’t really understand why colleges would go for a student who can pay the marginal 10k when they’re already giving out aid worth 50k. would that gap really be that important to them?

guysss where do you think I should apply ED? williams or colby? i am thinking colby but i really like williams too.

i would suggest williams coz with ur scores u hav chances there! also william ranks among top college!in first ED u can shoot at williams, unfortunately u u won’t b able to make it u can ED 2 colby ! Colby is quiet concerned with SAT scores!

@#165

1.

Will you elucidate more on this, please?

Well what I recommend is that research the college/university well before applying for ED! Is it the right fit for you? Don’t just base your applications on rankings and popularity. Dig beneath that thick layer of popularity. What do you find in the center?

I am not saying anything bad about the students of Chelsea. But the college enrolls the highest number of students and in terms of percentage of success, it’s pretty low, though the number of successful students is very high. And Chelsea capitalizes on the fact that they have around 10 students every year getting Cambridge awards and thus a lot of students get attracted. That’s a good strategy. Also, they publicize success of students for so many years, which I find funny coz they are being too desperate to get students even though they have the highest number of A Level students enrolled per year.

Hello friends, where can I get books for the SAT subject tests?

sat sub tests: usef library
I don’t know if you can buy or not though.

World War III before US invades Syria
WWIII in CC Class of 2018 ( From Nepal ) with verbal weapons.

I have sympathies!

It is true what you said but let me tell you that the school has not publicized the placement for 5+ years. A student got into tufts in class of 2016 and I heard few people knew who he was. The only selling they did was of Northeastern Uni few years back and that was very prestigious aid.
The point is that the college is starting to realize the potential. IF you or me or anyone else writes harsh things about any college then I think it will discourage the students of the school. Positivity matters in college application too and I think we should maintain that.
CCRC did the same with the MIT placement couple of years back and this year with same placement. One student gets and everybody thinks that they will be same. Thus lets discuss more personal and less college based because we are on the same boat here.

Forgot to mention.

I applied last year to US colleges. Got into good colleges and rejected by some.
I could not go because of insufficient finaid. This year I am correcting my mistakes and applying. Here is a few tips general for all applicants.
1.) For those applying ED-I and EA please get recommendation earlier than dasahin and tihar holidays. Trust me I had problems getting them to colleges in time. The college administration goes on a leave in most colleges and you are wondering about the meeting the deadlines instead of preparing for SAT it is very stressful.
2.)Give SAT more than once. I did not and paid the price. I had my own problems why I didn’t give but do not do that. Other thing even if you have a 2100+ score do give sat again. I have seen one of my friends improve his score and gotten into ED-2 because of improving his score.
3.) Regardless of what your grades are, if your SAT sucks then you won’t be getting good colleges. Placements depend on SAT and fin aid depends on it too.
4.) DO NOT apply to Northeastern University unless you can pay 14k-16k. They say that they give aid to you but they don’t. The guy from Chelsea few years back was one in a million.
5.) Get at least 1350 in CR and Math then you will not be like me here applying for another year.

I will give more updates as I go along. Good luck to you, to me and all!

“You shall Pass!” :P

may be colby college fit you!

ED to which!! got confusseed!
