Any advice for me?
@TrainerGary I like your first schedule, but you have to switch something out for a math class. Either Comp Sci, Physics, Chemistry, or Spanish Lit (if you already have 4 years of language) would have to go. Some of your proposed schedules have 6 classes instead of 7, so I’m not sure if you have a double blocked course or if you left one out by mistake.
I don’t know much about IB, but your schedule for that seems fine. Depends on what you want to do in science, but I don’t see Environmental Systems doing much for you.
Your third schedule has the same problem as the second one. Again, depending on what you want to do in science, you might be better off replacing environmental science with something else like the Computer Science class you wanted in your first schedule. Computer Science applies to every STEM field one way or the other.
AP Science classes include extra work from having to write lab reports. You probably shouldn’t triple up in any subject, especially science/math.
AP Calc AB
AP Bio
AP Chem ( or Physics)
AP Spanish 5 Lit.
English 11
U.S History
(IB Environmental as a fun elective?)
English is my weakpoint so I’ll probably not do IB beacuse of it , history is very demanding and takes away from other classes. What do you think about this schedule?
@EveryoneInThisThread
@Hamlon
I’m taking:
AP English Language & Composition
AP World History
AP Physics
Pre-Calculus
Spanish 4
2 Art electives and 1 Tri of Econ
I don’t know, but, I want to skip Spanish 4 so I can take AP Spanish 5 next year. With this, I would take Honors Chemistry instead of my electives and take AP Chemistry senior year and in the slot of Spanish, instead take my electives then. I am planning taking AP Gov which econ comes with.
AP Gov senior year.
So far I’ve been thinking of taking:
AP English Language
AP Chemistry
AP Calculus AB
AP US History
An online Arabic class
And for my electives, probably astronomy, a baking class, drama, and one more I’ve yet to decide.
I also kinda want to take online AP Physics C, since I want to be a astrophysicist when I’m older, but I’m worried that that would be way too much, especially considering extracurriculars. Luckily I still have a couple months left to decide.
So many of you people have really cool electives. I’m jealous.
2018’s proposed schedule for Jr year - school does a 4*4 schedule and there is no telling which 4 classes he will get which semester, except Biology goes all year since it is a combination course and lab and counts as 2 of the 8 total classes - anyway comments welcomed and needed!
AP Lang
AP CalcAB
AP Statistics
AP Biology
Biology Lab (H)
AP US History
AP Psychology

^ to add to this (my edit function isn’t working), we have 3 concerns:
- AP CalcAB - 2018 made a low B in precalc H - but our school’s precalc teacher while very good is infamous as a low and hard grader - several pretty smart kids made Cs and Ds in precalc H. And we hear that APCalcAB is no harder, and probably easier, at our school. But 2018 is a little gunshy about it since he’s not used to low Bs.
- AP Bio - 2018 made an A in Bio honors as a freshman, but science isn't his strong suit and it's tempting to do something else even without the AP GPA boost - also he will have 6 APs if we stick with Bio - a bit concerned that's too much.
- APStats - our school didn't offer this class this year, and will have a new teacher next year for it. Again it's tempting to wait until senior year because of the current AP load and because of the unknown of the new teacher. But I understand that this generally is considered one of the "easier" AP courses and 2018 would like to maintain/improve class rank which is boosted by APs; plus I think 2018 will do well in it.
Thoughts?
For me, AP Bio does not have a lot of reading, so your child should take it. As for the AP US History, you read every night, just a warning.
Ok here’s mine

Honors Chemistry (Should I take AP Chemistry? I could maybe self-study Chemistry over the summer.)
@SuburbianNightmare I plan on self-studying Chem. The AP Chem teacher said it was fine and promised to give me some resources for free. I’m actually excited for AP Chem even though I know it will be very hard.
APUSH
Zoology
AP Art History
Spanish 4 Honors
AP English Language

I’m not too concerned about the workload, I’m strong in history (I want to major in it) and I’m in my school’s creative writing program, so AP Lang essays aren’t an issue. You guys seem to have cool classes, I’m jealous!
@sewin2music I don’t think AP Physics 1 and AP Chem will bring your GPA down too much. AP Psychics 1 is an introduction to physics, which can be taken without a prerequisite physics class, so shouldn’t be too bad.
