Decision: Accepted

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 790 CR 740 M 770 Writ - 2300 total
[] ACT: n/a
[] SAT II: 730 Math II, 750 World History
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.8ish
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): school doesn’t rank
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): 5, 5, 4
[] IB (place score in parenthesis): n/a
[] Senior Year Course Load: all AP core classes + advanced art class
[li] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): AP Scholar & National Merit Commended, various school awards
[/li]

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): a crap load haha student government, board for 4 service clubs (I’m big on philanthropy), fine arts/performing arts. more details in my previous chance threads
[] Job/Work Experience: n/a
[] Volunteer/Community service: volunteer at a retirement home and did a variety of stuff there
[] Summer Activities: see above + some career-oriented/leadership summer programs
[] Essays: I thought my CA essay was risky (had no idea how an admissions committee would evaluate it) and I edited another college’s “Why us?” supplement for UR. Evidently both were good enough thankfully.
[] Teacher Recommendation: A+ they both really like me
[] Counselor Rec: Don’t like my counselor but from what I know they wrote a good one
[] Additional Rec: my friend wrote me a peer rec - it was really sweet. I was pleasantly surprised by the little details they picked up on that I never thought anyone noticed.
[li] Interview: DIDN’T INTERVIEW. Mostly due to difficulties with the UR website. So FYI though the interview’s highly recommended you can still get in without it. We’ll have to see how it affects merit aid though.
[/li]

[/ul]Other:[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): CA
[] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type: competitive public
[] Ethnicity: didn’t state
[] Gender: F
[] Income Bracket: upper-middle class
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): none
[/li]

[/ul]Reflection:[ul]
[] Strengths: stats in school’s upper ranges, good recs, leadership, and I’m a pretty good writer.
[] Weaknesses: I ventured into the terrifying territory of the “laundry list” of activities. I didn’t plan my way to the top in high school - I just did whatever I wanted to and I’ve always enjoyed testing my skills in a variety of different disciplines. It’s definitely gonna hurt me for the top 10/20 schools, but what’s done is done and I’ve gained a lot from my activities character-wise so I guess no regrets.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: see strengths above
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: This is my first official acceptance.

[/ul]General Comments:[list]
[*] Rochester’s one of my safeties so I’m not all that surprised but still quite happy to be accepted. I received a personalized letter in the mail which noted my activities and personal qualities and was hand-signed. My only complaint is that I wish UR was closer to New York, and not so damn cold. Congrats to everyone else who made it!

Post your merit scholarships once they come out!
