My first first decision and first acceptance - Scripps College!
Very excited - especially as for me (US citizen living overseas my whole life) it means a whole new country!

Congratulations, SummerAus! Scripps is a wonderful school.

Sugarski, sorry to hear about your D. But she has wonderful choices. I hope she can move past the disappointment quickly.

Posted on a couple of boards but struggling to know what to say to daughter who was waitlisted at Holy Cross. It is her top choice but decided that after working hard for 4 years she wanted to see what colleges she could get into. She loves HC and it has been hard for her to evaluate her other acceptances. We went to an admitted students weekend at Villanova and they could not have been more welcoming or enthusiastic. We had already spoken with the heads of the department in which she is interested in majoring and she felt really good about the study abroad possibilities (she plans to be a language major). We are off to Case Western in a couple of weeks and I think this could be a great fit for her. Still waiting to hear from 4 more and I THINK (but who knows now) 2 of them are pretty good bets. We

She really wanted HC and now cannot envision herself going elsewhere. I hope she realizes she has some other great options. However, we are still going to pursue HC until they lock the door on us!

Update 2: yes from UMassAmherst (CHC) and Goucher both with generous aid offers. Still waiting Bryn Mawr, Wellesley, Vassar and Smith.

In at Smith!!! But D can’t go unless there is FA. No need based expected.

@sugarski- I am sorry about Smith! Still, waitlist is not final, right? D heard from them yesterday, too, and did not get in. She felt the same as your D, I think. She had a “good feeling” about it, and she also worked extremely hard to overcome some major obstacles in the last 18 months, so it was heartbreaking not to see her validated for that by an acceptance there.

She did get into Mount Holyoke last night, though, and she is absolutely ecstatic about that. There was lots of yelling and screaming when she checked the portal She had fallen in love with it her sophomore year and I know she will be happy there.

Now just waiting for a final notification from Wellesley (where she was deferred from Early Evaluation) and Skidmore. I’m so glad the end of this waiting period is in sight, and that my daughter is accepted at a school she loves!

Thanks for the kind words, @calla1. :)

@staceyneil: So happy your daughter got into MHC! What a lovely school! (We toured and I thought it would be a great fit for my daughter, but she was firm that she only wanted to apply to one women’s college, for whatever reason.) Best of luck with the last remaining schools, too. :)

Thanks for the support. It really helps to know there are other parents going through the same exact thing… trying to help our kids through this process, which is sometimes so heartbreaking, as you say.

My 2 seniors were:

Both Accepted: Waynesburg, Westminster, Youngstown State

One Applied & Accepted: Belmont, Rensselaer

Both Waitlisted: Case, Kenyon

Waiting to hear about 3 more, but the waitlist result for Kenyon was very disappointing for one of them! No rejections so far, but waitlist purgatory was unexpected - we thought any uncertainty would be over by the end of next week.

Another Smith rejection here. Sorry to all of the other parents whose children are also feeling the sting of rejection, we too had a really good feeling about the school and thought it would be a good match for our daughter. I’m especially disappointed because it was the one school that encouraged parental involvement through parents recommendation forms, and now I’m wondering if I played a role in her denial of admittance. I hope not, but it’s something that I will probably always think about.

She was also denied from UCLA, Claremont McKenna and Occidental (another bit of a shock, but it wasn’t a school she was terribly invested in anyway)

She’s been accepted to SDSU (no aid), Mills (15k merit), Willamette (18k merit) and Howard (no fin aid information yet), so we can at least sleep at night, knowing she has some really good schools to consider. Will be happy when all of this if finally done with come April 1!

D was accepted at UVM, Wheaton, UNH, Elon, and Bates. Very exciting times around here.

Hi, so I’m anxiously awaiting college decisions as well! A quick overview of where I’m at currently:
Accepted: Suffolk 33k in aid (20k gap), Umass Boston: Full Ride, Umass Amherst: Awaiting fin aid, St. Johns: 30k fin aid (29k gap), Champlain College: Awaiting fin aid, and Skidmore College: Full Ride.
Denied: Northwestern, Northeastern and UChicago
Awaiting: Harvard, Vassar, Columbia, Tufts, and Fordham.
So far in terms of acceptance, Skidmore looks like the best option especially with a full ride but still awaiting some more :)

@turtlefence I am with you on the “waitlist purgatory” – love your description – I really though this week was it. My S got into UC Davis (Regents Scholar), UCSB (Regents Scholar), UCSC (honors), UCSD, and UCLA. Waitlisted at UChicago. Still awaiting UCBerkeley, Stanford, Harvard, and Yale, but with low expectations.

Adding Fordham to my list of acceptances! Starting to get some good options :)

D waitlisted at U Richmond. 3 waitlists! Maddening!

I as well will be adding Fordham to my list of acceptances! Now anticipating the really tough ones: Tufts, Vassar, Harvard and Columbia!

I’m relatively new here but appreciate all the support. Add me to the list of parents losing sleep over this. My D is a little unique (they all are) bc of her interest in dance performance. Applied to BFA programs through audition and also to LACs with exceptional dance programs. For future she’s interested in education or psychology. She also has a 504/LDs. The insomnia-inducer now is weighing full scholarship at a safety that might not be academically challenging for her, vs “better” LAC with inadequate merit $. Sigh.

Accepted:
Muhlenberg - merit $ but not enough
Goucher - full scholarship
Smith - no $ - financial rejection
Mt Holyoke - merit $ but not enough - this is now her first choice.
Rutgers - merit $ (Mason Gross BFA)
Temple - merit $ (BFA)
Fordham academically but denied at Ailey BFA - out of the running
Univ of NC School of the Arts (BFA) - her #1 choice but no $ - financial rejection
Univ of the Arts (BFA) - merit $ but not enough
Marymount Manhattan (BA) - merit $ but not enough; not interested in BA there, wanted BFA

Denied:
Juilliard
SUNY Purchase (for dance)

“It’s complicated”…but my biggest reach-out for support and ideas is whether to try to scramble the $ for a ‘better’ LAC or attend Goucher which is a nice fit for her other than academically. I just can’t find any parental or student reviews extolling its academics, prep for graduate school etc… Any thoughts?

@DarwinKnew

Hi! Welcome! I have also lost a lot of sleep over this because my D’s situation was also quite unique. Her first choice is Mount Holyoke as well! She is awaiting 2 other decisions but she’s 99.9% on MHC. She also has a LD (although she won’t be taking the 504 to college.) She’s also planning to minor in psychology (major in art) at this point, although who knows what will happen once she starts taking all those other interesting courses :)

Are you going to accepted students weekend? Perhaps we’ll see you there!

Regarding your dilemma: how does your D feel about the relative academic fit? I know that for my D it was really important. We visited a variety of schools, and she just felt SOOOOOOO much better at the ones with more highly intellectual kids. (She’s really smart but her GPA was low-ish due to the consequences of the LD being undiagnosed so long.) Her test scores match the kids at schools she had little chance of getting into due to the GPA. But on those campuses she felt so inspired and excited and “right”. Whereas on the campuses of schools where the students had lower SAT scores, she just felt, “meh…” to the extent that she decided a while ago that if she only got into her safety she’d probably decline and take a gap year! Needless to say, I was extremely relieved whan she got her Mount Holyoke acceptance last Friday!

@DarwinKnew
D has similar situation. Smith w no $. Goucher with enough merit to make it affordable but we haven’t visited and time is running out. G was recommended by a writing professor friend. I’ve heard good things from her. Apparently new president has raised reputation.

Update: In at Bryn Mawr; waitlisted at Wellesley

Waitlisted at Wellesley! My D is floored. She was expecting to be rejected (she’d gotten a “possible” in the EE round.)

So she’s been accepted to:
Bard College (w/some aid)
Hampshire College (w/ some merit & some need aid)
Mount Holyoke (with a LOT of aid, but it’s still going to be crippling for us) (she’ll accept here)

Waitlisted:
Wellesley (will stay on waitlist)

Rejected:
Smith

Waiting:
Skidmore (but she prefers Mount Holyoke)

my D hasn’t had many good results yet :(
