Figured I would start a thread for the homeschool class of 2019.
I’ll get it started. My daughter has been accepted so far to Penn State and Arcadia University (with a merit scholarship). She’s a QuestBridge finalist, so next round of decisions comes December 3rd.
My Son has been accepted to Baylor And John Brown University, both wiith nice merit scholarships.
I wanted to update that my D was accepted into her ED choice, Haverford, and is thrilled to be withdrawing the rest of her apps/declining her other acceptances next week. She didn’t meet their 25-75 percent test score range, but I guess they saw something special in her app. Can’t wait to see more good news from other homeschoolers on this thread!
I’ll happily add to this thread: Daughter has been accepted to Hollins University, UNC School of the Arts, WCU, and Clark University. Wishing all those still waiting to get good news soon.
Congrats!
So far, my senior with all free MOOC or Mommy-designed classes has been accepted with merit $ to: Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, Furman, Kennesaw State U, Mercer, USC, UTK, Wofford, with a 1300. No denials yet. Might be aiming too low. We’re shopping for cost vs benefit.
Glad to see other homeschoolers on here!
I’m a senior and have applied to 17 schools. Of those, I’ve heard back from 3 so far: Le Moyne, Siena, and Saint Rose. I was accepted to all 3 (they were my “ultra safety” schools). Can’t wait to hear back from the rest of my schools in a couple months!
Update: just got accepted to Cazenovia. Another “ultra safety” for me, but I’m glad nonetheless.
My son is also a QuestBridge finalist. So far he has only heard back from his 2 safety schools: Juniata and TN Tech. Both with big merit $ plus FA. Now he is waiting for Regular Decision in the next few weeks for the rest of the schools. Congrats to all of you for all of your hard work!
Missed this thread before. My son applied to 16 schools (he couldn’t seem to stop once he started). So far he’s gotten acceptances from UGA, Hendrix, Knox, St. Olaf, and Macalester. Looks like the floodgates on the rest of the decisions are opening this week–eek!
My homeschooled daughter applied to 10…accepted into Agnes Scott (safety), Bard Berlin and waitlisted at Sarah Lawrence (one of her top 5 ). I think I’m not realizing we shot too high as I’m afraid we are going to get bad news with the final 7. We secular homeschool in the deep south - mostly unschooled - and I’m scared the mostly NE all girls schools she applied to will not look at her. It’s hard to compete with most of the stats I’m seeing posting on those threads as a homeschooler in a VERY small town where ECs are scarce and no co-op and we couldn’t participate in public school extras as it wasn’t allowed. We pulled her out of public in 7th grade and it was absolutely the perfect and right choice for her…until we started applying to schools and now I realize we might have really limited her future. Scary stuff for a guilt ridden momma!!
@4sugarplums Don’t worry yet. I know this is stressful, but you don’t know what the next 7 will say. My son is a QuestBridge Finalist and has gotten all denials from the QB schools so far, but is finding that he is LOVING the schools that he is getting acceptances from. Our kids will end up in a school that fits them well. You have given your daughter a great opportunity and even if she doesn’t get into one of her favorites, she still might find that one of her “safeties” is the perfect fit for her.
Hello, what is a questbridge and what home school program do you use? I have a 9th grader at Bridgeway and is going well so far!
Questbridge is a college scholarship program for low income students. Students can apply in 11th grade for their precollege program, or in 12 grade for their college match program. We do not use a formal homeschool program. My daughter is graduating with a transcript created by me.
Becomming a Questbridge Finalist also also allows the kids to apply to QuestBridge partner schools for free. We also don’t use a formal homeschool program. My son has mostly taken online college and AP courses through high school.
Are there any home-schooled students admitted to UCLA this year 2019 ? 2018 or any years before ? It seems like no record of history posting about UCLA admitting homeschoolers.
I’m honestly not sure! But… my younger daughter does plan to apply next year, so I guess I will find out one way or the other!
@milgymfam Thank you for the reply!
So for any future homeschool families reading this thread, my son was accepted to Lafayette College yesterday. His stats were within their range but not exceptionally high. They send personal acceptance (and rejection) letters and I sense that they find fit, interview, and the essay to be very important. They also commented on him taking the hardest possible courses available to him (even with some B’s.)
