Class of 2019 Rejections, Denials etc.

Sorry, I meant the BA! Not BFA. I know that’s competitive and lots of people audition. I’ve heard they are a really fantastic program.

Couldn’t agree more @soozievt College is what you make of it. It’s (once again) the chicken vs egg scenario…those that make it in the business probably would have made it without schooling. The training is not what made them successful. Creating opportunities, taking advantage of every connection etc is critical. My daughter is in a program that is considered lower tier or possibly not even on the tier, yet she has turned the heads of faculty, snagged lead roles, participated in every theatre opportunity availed to her and will graduate with wonderful training because she sought it out. This can happen at any school, any program whether BA or BFA. Hang in there everyone…it’s going to happen for your kids. <3

@destiny95‌ feel free to message me with any questions and I’ll answer best I can. My D loves the program! Good luck!

@mtsc13‌ We visited Muhlenberg, and while my son will attend elsewhere, we all loved the school and the program!

Body Count
With this flurry of activity from the schools this week, it feels like we just came out of this huge battle, and are looking for the morning fog to clear to see how many bodies are littering the ground. And wondering if the fighting will continue today. (dramatic isn’t it? …go figure.)
We just lost 5 is as many days. Feel free to share. (…all happy news will be met with a firing squad!)

@bisouu & @soozievt. Excellent post !

@pghmusician - The beatings will commence until the attitude improves, eh?!!

It was bloody in my household yesterday for sure, but the first battle of the day went to the home team, so no carnage nor mayhem can wipe the giddy grins off our faces. Though the score was 1 to 3, we’ll definitely take the one. Sure was an exciting day watching everything - a completely unexpected one at that. Thinking of everyone - you too @KaMaMom! If I guessed right, you were in Cullowhee yesterday, at my sister’s alma mater. Hope the day went well for you and yours.

Back to the bad news…

@DaddyDoRite … BUZZZZZZZ WRONG! [-X

We were in Nebraska yesterday.

Cullowhee is this COMING weekend.

Geesh. Get it together people!!

:wink:

@KaMaMom - Ah, Nebraska (brrrrr) - home of MY alma mater. Enjoy the nearly South. There’s a good microbrewery in nearby Silva should you need it!

I think this is so true, and extremely important to remember!

@pghmusician You crack me up. I love your attitude! I laugh at almost all your posts. Thank you!

almost? what the #^{* do you mean ALMOST?! Besides, I am like so jealous of your son’s choices! Like wow! Had I known how well he would do, I might have pulled a ‘Tonya Harding’ when we were at Elon! b-(
(seriously, congrats though! Your son is amazing. Can’t wait to see him on Broadway!)

@bisouu… Didn’t I read recently that Drew was ranked number 5 in theater programs? Not lower tier in my book! But you are right…it’s not the program, it’s what they make of their opportunities!

“Pulled a Tonya Harding”… =)) There’s my LOL moment of the day. Thank you @pghmusician‌ !!!

@pghmusician‌ If you get into an ice skating leotard I want photos!

If Will Ferrel can do it than I …actually no, no I really can’t. Picture a sea lion standing erect on his hind flippers attempting to walk across the ice. And I wouldn’t even look THAT good.

Rant for the day - I understand that with 1000 kids applying fo 12-15 slots, it is a craphoot - they have 6 male slots, 2 romatic leads, 2 chorus boy types, one ethnic slot and one character type (non-traditional looks, short, heavyset, tall and thin etc) so, the odds aren’t great. and i understand that with 982 out of 1000 getting rejected, the schools cannot personalize the rejections to provide feedback (although, we paid a $50-$75 application fee plus a matching audition fee - they coud spare 5 min to make a suggestion to the kids for the $150 per kid they earned). my son hs gotten a few polite rejection form letters, thanks for auditioning, we saw lots of talent, cant take everyone…yadda yadda yadda. he also has acceptances at 2 top teir schools, neither perfect for him, both well regarded and good, so the rant is not fueled by rejection per se. someone at emerson should re-think their letter, though. It tells the kid that they are welcome to re-apply next year(but can’t transfer the theatre credits to the Emerson BFA), after they complete a year of liberal arts study and prove they can hack it. Seriously? my son is in the National Honor Society, maintaining the necessary GPA while he works wirh 2 community theatre groups plus school theatre for 6 shows per year, holds down a weekend job, earned his Eagle Scout award and does voice, acting and dance (2 classes) lessons every week. he does not need to go to another school to prove himself and reapply. neither do the any of the other kids who did not get in - they will do just fine studying MT at another school.

Shucky darn, was put on BoCo and Emerson waitlist…how many waitlists make you the Queen of the Wailists?

Since we are talking about “type” so much, as an audience member I am most entertained when someone plays against type.

I agree that the Emerson rejection letter was not a good one! I’ve paid a lot of attention to the wording of the rejection letters. In my opinion, prescreen rejections were the worst in that department. “Unfortunately, you have not met our criteria so we are unable to offer you an audition…” Way to make me feel like a number!
