Thank you guys. I’m waiting on CMU, Syracuse, and NYU. And I was incredibly sick for those auditions. I have a few non-audition safeties as well, BU, Conn College, and UVM. I just have to keep reminding myself that it all could be much worse and that I only need one acceptance.
@mtsc13 - My D has several of friends whose only acceptance was NYU. Chin up!
@kategrizz I haven’t ruled it out yet, I’m just unsure of it, and thank you!!
I think I liked in better when rejections only came like 1 every week.
You guys are all so awesome, thank you so much.
No CCPA (in the spam folder). Waitlist Emerson.
@mtsc13 I know a lot of people at UVM (I live very close) and Burlington is a lovely town! The theatre department is small but there are few talented kids there who are also acting professionally with local companies. If you want I could probably connect you to a current student! Also, if you’re into a Capella, the Top Cats are amazing
@mtsc13 hang in there… We were in your shoes yesterday, and then hope pulled through :)…
Ps. Heard wonderful things about Muhlenburg, talked with the director back in November, he was so cool!
@mtsc13, my cousin is at Muhlenburg and LOVE LOVE LOVES it!! She can’t imagine having gone anywhere else! Visit and sit in on classes!
@GSOMTMom @pookiesunshine I did visit Muhlenberg, and I ended up liking it more than I thought I would! I’m just the type of person that plans expectations and scenarios in my head and when things don’t turn out how I thought, I get flustered and unsure. Muhlenberg was way at the bottom of my list in the beginning, so I just have to re-arrange my stubborn mind to think of it as a contender
Thank you all so much for the support guys, it means a lot
Probably one of the most talented actresses at my D’s school in the past 5 years attended Muhlenberg and adored it. I trust her judgment. It has to be a great school.
Getting into an autioned program does not determine success in ANY WAY, Please believe it. I live in a regional market where the top, top talent that work all the time went to BA schools. The BFA is necessary is a MYTH, don’t buy into the hype. I beg you!
D had a friend turn down BFA at Emerson for muhlenberg 2 years ago- loves it there
No from CCPA.
My D went through this process last year and I’m back to CC to research info for my other D who is a HS junior. This time around it’s much easier since D is thinking business major and happy to stay in CA! I find myself coming to the MT threads though, checking out what’s going on in the crazy process. My D is finishing up her freshman year at Ohio Northern University and really loves it there. This school isn’t talked about that much here, but I’ll post some details/info about her experience in the first semester experience thread and ONU thread for anyone interested. I think they accept applications through April.
In answer to the question about getting off of waitlists. Yes, many people do, because once kids start accepting, the whole thing becomes a huge domino effect. However, it can move all the way into June! We have a friend who 2 years ago was accepted off the wait list at UArts the first week in June! But, you don’t want to count on that and then maybe be left without anyplace at all. So, put down a deposit by May 1 to reserve a place at a program that you will be happy in, and then if you get off a waitlist someplace else you can make the decision without panicking. Of course, you do have to make the decision to maybe wave goodby to that deposit. However, looking at the whole picture of the cost of 4 years, it is a pretty small fraction . . .
@Sunnyomma I would really love to know more about ONU. Just applied last week as a safety school to keep options open, and they are currently reviewing my audition.
@destiny95: I’m sorry to say that if ONU means Ohio Northern, it is NOT a safety school. I know that the BA is a non-audition, but the BFA is competitive. They saw 250 kids at Chicago Unifieds last year in 3 days. I’m not sure how many they see on campus. What gave you the impression that they were considered a safety?
Any school that has an audition is not a safety for sure!
I thought I would share this on this thread. An article came out in the Washington Post about a new book that emphasizes what I have always maintained…that it doesn’t matter the name of where you went to school when it comes to success, but it is more about the person who has the drive and ambition to succeed. Please keep that in mind during this admission notification season! You can succeed from anywhere if you do what it takes.
I don’t think it matters where you go to college when it comes to succeeding. I think it does matter where you go to college in terms of the fit of the experience you want to have those four years.
