Class of 2019 (the journey begins) - Sharing,Venting, Etc

Don’t know if this is true but seems the way to go. Hope someone can help you.

@vocal1046‌ I have only seen this type of taping for Wagner and it isn’t a prescreen, it is considered a video audition if you can’t make their on campus audition. Wagner does not have a prescreen. All the schools my S is applying to says to upload separate clips. Hope this helps. What schools applying?

prescreens for Elon, Penn State, Indiana, UArts, Ithaca, Michigan I don’t see such a requirement anywhere and it it seems utterly insane, technically. I hope the parent who posted that responds (I don’t know how to tag - @‌Addicted2MT ).

My S is applying to all of those but UArts and they all say upload separate clips. Breathe you’ve got this. I’ll dbl check UArts for u if u want a separate pair of eyes

One tip is to go to the accepted website for the school. They directions there are ususally very specific.

I am staying at arm’s length from this as it’s not my process But I can’t help but be the catcher in the rye. Usernames and passwords are not currently being shared, which I respect. So I know everything I can from school websites but, as anyone who’s had a kid deal with the Common App knows, every once in a while a new requirement will pop up (previously unannounced supplemental essays, etc) I can imagine that the same thing happens with Acceptd and Decision Desk.

@vocal1046 If you can stay at an arms length through the entire process- you (and your child) are better at it than most of us…

I wholeheartedly agree that we all need to have a “big buddy” to mentor us! In fact, I want to thank my Class of 2018 big buddy for being there to answer my million questions, sending me updates on your D, and checking up on me from time to time. I sent one “inbox msg” and my buddy has held my hand ever since. You know who you are. Thanks for being there!!! :x I definitely plan on passing this forward!

@vocal1046 - found it!!! The school that wants everything in one take is the University of Oklahoma! However, they will allow two clips (sorry if my previous post suggested only one- I did not mean to alarm anyone), one for voice and monologues and a separate for dance. However, I will quote, “No editing of any kind and perform songs into monologues in a single take.” and “VIDEOS THAT DO NOT MEET THIS CRITERIA WILL NOT BE VIEWED.” and “Your performance is limited to one (1) minute for each style demonstrated.
Your full body MUST be in view at all times but you may pause the video to change shoes.” Everything in quotes was taken directly from their website. I just updated my spreadsheet…cuz I want my D’s video to be viewed. 8-}

If you are going to go to Unifides anyway you can do the U of OK prescreen there live and not have to sweat the all in one take no edits video etc. if those requirements bother you. I believe U of OK also does send reps to some of the state thespian audition events and similar where you can also do your pre-screen live. The actual audition whether you prescreen via recording or do it live will ultimately be on campus.

Thanks. Oklahoma’s not on the kid’s list so I will refrain from commenting on that (ahem) requirement. Arm’s length is the standard I’m aspiring to but, as I said above, I am lurking in the tall grasses ready to prevent any serious errors that might send kiddo off a cliff. I have a multicolored spreadsheet (OK, several) and am spending a ridiculous amount of time and mental energy researching and organizing information that I strive to keep to myself. My success varies from day to day.

@vocal1046, toowonderful nailed it. If you can pull it off (and props to you if you can) we are all NOT worthy. Insert clip from Wayne’s World and you get the picture. I struck a deal with my daughter (and she is now a junior at NYU so I’m a dinosaur) that I’d just be the air traffic controller as far as the moving pieces went but the rest was up to her. It was a good marriage of skills and dividing and conquering on the work. Given everything else that is on the plate for senior year in HS it felt like the thing to do at the time. All the best!

For me, it was a capstone - the last great project we would tackle together :)

I couldn’t imagine my S doing it all alone, maintaining his grades, rehearsals and training last year. He has thanked me a million times for keeping it organized while he drove the artistic end. The scheduling alone was a bit#4 to get through.

Breath everyone, we are here for ya!!

My mom’s just been handing me the debit card and I’m in charge of essentially everything else. It’s so stressful! It’s so wonderful that you can all help your kids - I have no idea how I’m going to get through all this. :open_mouth:

Take that credit card and hire one of us to do it for you

We’re here for you Jewel15 :)

Right, @bisouu!! hahahaa!!

Does anyone know if my S doesn’t get into Michigan or Carnegie Mellon bc of audition, but does academically if he can still go there, or bc he puts down theatre as a major and doesn’t pass audition, is he outta luck?

You have to be academically admitted to Michigan before they give you an audition slot.
