Honestly, Cuse takes a VERY holistic view of things so grades, EC’s, scores, etc only matter up to a certain point. It sounds like all of that kind of stuff is great for you. My stats were lower and I got into Newhouse. You also need to take into consideration what college you want to get into. Newhouse for instance is VERY competitive. If you really want to get in, I advise that you apply ED and show them how much you want it. They want to know that you want to be there. Do a LOT of research. If you wanna go to Whitman, look at their stats, if you wanna go to the iSchool look at theirs. If you have any other questions I’m here!

to add onto @Syracuse19 when writing your essays, make sure to show your passion and excitement about the school and the program you are applying to. it really makes you stand out. this will be a lot easier after you do the necessary research

Just to give a little perspective of my application: I got into Newhouse (Regular Decision) with the same SAT score, a 28 on the ACT, a 3.92 UW GPA, and eight total AP classes (five during my senior year). I personally had a lot of EC's, but I decided that for the SU application, I would just focus on my heavy involvement in the acting programs and opportunities in my school and community along with a business journalism internship and my role as a school yearbook editor.

Though the essay questions are short (this past year, the Syracuse application on the Common App suggested one to two paragraphs for each question but did not provide a max or min word count), TAKE THEM SERIOUSLY.

If you have a passion, don’t be afraid to emphasize it! (especially if it’s related to the school/program you’re applying to) It helps define you as an individual applicant apart from the rest of the applicants.

Best of luck! Be sure to keep your grades up your senior year since Syracuse requires your mid-year report and final transcript.

Though it’s a good way to display enthusiasm for potentially enrolling at the university by applying ED, ONLY apply ED if Syracuse is your first choice. ED is a binding method of enrollment if you’re admitted to your first choice of college at 'cuse, so you’re pretty much obligated to enroll at SU in the fall.

ED isn’t binding if you expect a financial aid award.

If your attendance cannot be made possible with the financial package offered to you, then you can decline your offer of admission and are not bound to the ED agreement.

Yeah, I believe that if you’re admitted to your first choice of college in SU by applying ED, then you’re, well, bound to to enroll at SU. IF life happens and their early notification of your financial aid package isn’t good enough to help send you to Syracuse and places too heavy of a burden upon your shoulders financially, then the ED admittance decision is no longer binding.

As for chancing the thread author, I think your stats are where they need to be. Keep up your grades, write some butt-kicking essays that help you stand out, keep up your participation and leadership in your EC’s, and I think you’ve got a good chance! Then again, research about SU and what school(s) you’d be interested in, and perhaps drive your application in the direction of your first choice of college. If you’re a real try-hard, interview! It’s pretty much all about you. But you do you.

Apply ED only if you’re set on SU this early in the application process. Binding means binding… so… serious business. It’s something different from Early Action, which SU (unfortunately) does not offer. If your heart is set on SU, then by all means apply early! But overall, have fun with your college applications and finding your second home!
