I’m applying to the college of Arts and Sciences at Syracuse University. I have a 3.2 GPA, 30 ACT, I’m doing Early Decision, and I’m planning on writing some killer essays. Do I have a shot?
Low reach due to GPA.
Wait what exactly does low reach mean? Is that better than high reach?
Your GPA does seem a little low, but as long as you show you are able to work hard on your studies (via teacher recommendations and essays) you should have a shot. Your ACT score seems good, but have you considered taking the SAT as well?
Applying ED helps, too. As long as you do everything in your power to establish good interest in SU and a good set of fields you wish to study (that you can back up with extracurriculars and connections to current SU courses/research), it will definitely not be a wasted opportunity.
When it comes to reaches, low reaches are close to targets but your stats might not perfectly reach the bar on all levels. If your essays are going to be “killer” then I see no reason for you not to apply.
If you are looking for other schools to apply to just in case, there are many in Rochester like U of R, RIT and St. John Fisher that I think rival SU in certain academic fields.
With that ACT score and ED? Absolutely in my opinion.
Thanks so much!
I got a 1290 on the SAT but I’ve only been sending my ACT to schools
@alex37schmidt. You will tap dance into Syracuse. Only 19% of attending students scored a 30 or above. Syracuse is only moderately selective. You should aim higher with some other schools. What is your gpa excluding freshman year?
You should get in. I don’t know how competitive Arts and Sciences is but it’s probably nothing close to Newhouse. ED is not very hard to get into at SU. If you’re worried/it’s your top choice then go visit, show interest, do an interview. I think you’ll be fine though
Syracuse university
There is no minimum GPA or standardized test score required for admission. Applicants to Syracuse University present a variety of academic and extracurricular credentials. The Admissions Committee will review your application individually, taking into account your academic credentials, as well as your unique personal qualities. For students entering the University in the fall semester of 2015, the average GPA was 3.63. Average SAT was 1190 (M/CR) and ACT average composite was 27.
Sat good Gpa is bad but theres nothing you can really do for that, try to make up for gpa with Extracurriculars and recommendation letters
