congrats @icecoldpepper11 and @georginac! Our S was accepted into Towson and Salisbury, and has one more in RD. We’re waiting to hear about $$ from Towson (Salisbury sent info out right after the acceptance letter). Sounds like both of you have some great options!
Daughter was accepted to Villanova, Providence, Fairfield, (nice scholarships to Providence and Fairfield, but so far nothing to Villanova). Still waiting on Syracuse and Boston College).
Thank you!!
Hi all, new to this thread…congrats to all who have their acceptances! My DD just received her first acceptance to UVA after being deferred from her top choice in December. It is a big relief to get a yes, so even if the rest are rejections, it won’t sting as much. Still waiting on 9 other schools…it’s a long process!
I am new to CC. My son was accepted to Penn ED
Congrats, @DadinKansas and @greeny8 ! Feel free to post these results to the List of Acceptances http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/1836696-class-of-2020-list-of-acceptances-h-s-class-of-2016.html#latest.
You are also welcome to join the ongoing party (lots of support for both happy and sad news) at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/class-20xx-community/1296016-parents-of-the-hs-class-of-2016.html#latest.
@DadinKansas congrats! You’re lucky to be finished. I think waiting and the uncertainty is the hardest part.
Thanks Crowlady, I will update the list of acceptance
Thanks greeny8, definitely less stress and adequate time to plan the move
Like @DadinKansas I’m relatively new here too. I figured I would add to this thread (and eventually the other ones),
My S was rejected ED from Cornell (School of Engineering), and was, as to be expected, devastated. It was probably the worst week I’ve experienced as a parent having to ride that emotional roller coaster. We knew it was a bit of a stretch, but felt reasonably sure that he had a chance (and at worst would be deferred).
Thankfully he’s resilient and has moved on.
He’s been accepted to Colorado School of Mines (with some nice $), but doesn’t really want to have to fly to go to school. He’s also gotten into Pitt (Swanson School of Engineering), Rutgers (with $ and invitation to the honors program) and Rowan (his total “just in case” safety school) with $ there too.
We’re still waiting on Carnegie, UDel, RIT, Virginia Tech and Maryland (the last two were late additions to his list fueled partly by the Cornell rejection plus offering the aerospace engineering he’d really like to pursue).
I think, if he doesn’t get into Carnegie, and gets in to VT it’ll come down to either Pitt or VT in the final decision.
Congrats on the acceptances for you S!
He’s already gotten into a couple good schools. VT and Pitt are excellent alternatives if CMU doesn’t work out.
@dbjs70 Sorry about the Cornell rejection but congrats on those 4 acceptances! <:-P Best of luck waiting for the final 5 decisions. He has some great schools on his list.
@dbjs70 congrats on your S many acceptances. I am sure the rejection was tough but we all know that over time and once he is officially enrolled it will be a little blip in his long successful life. I wish you lots of luck!
Thanks all! Good to hear affirmation of what we’re all thinking.
@dbjs70 Rejections are so hard. It’s terrible to see our kids disappointed, but in the end they will be stronger by learning to cope and move on. Congrats on the other acceptances with merit money! My D is applying as an engineering major too, but engineering is so competitive and unpredictable these days it’s hard to know where they will get in. Good luck on the other schools.
I’m trying to figure our what is worse, flat out rejection or in our case, acceptance to dream school but coming to terms that the “additional” $150k (GaTech OOS vs UF in-state) just isn’t feasible from a value (ROI) perspective. Especially since a Florida resident can get a UF BS degree AND GaTech MSCE degree cheaper than going 4+ undergrad years to Ga Tech paying OOS tuition. #DreamsOnHold
@DarkStar904 that was the one silver lining in my S not getting into Cornell. Tuition almost everywhere else is less and may come with some merit $.
Sounds to me like the UF/GaTech combo might be the way to go assuming of course your S or D would be happy at UF.
@dbjs70 – so sorry about the rejection. But yes, the lining is silver, literally, for lower priced options. I don’t t know if I would be all that happy now, if my daughter got accepted (deferred currently) at her first choice school. I’ve already mentally spent the savings on nice vacations . . .
Was accepted into Duquesne, York, UMass Lowell, and Quinnipiac so far for direct entry Nursing. Im waiting for Scranton and Temple.
Ugh. Today D found out she didn’t make the cut on the next level for a competitive scholarship. She’s received lots of generous offers, accepted at 4 out of 5 her choices, and has had her share of good news. We have nothing to complain about, but still feeling deflated. I’ll take experiencing 1,000 of my own disappointments over one session of consoling my child who is questioning her worth. But this is why ice cream was invented, right?
@hmays1 sorry about the scholarship. It always hurts to feel rejection, even though she has so many positive offers. As a parent we always want to take the pain away, but I am sure with your unconditional love she will always know she is worth every thing the world has to offer. Good luck!! Ice cream sounds pretty good right now…
