Class of 2020 (sharing, venting, etc)

Last year the first notification that S was accepted to CMU came via portal, phone call came later that day and letter in the mail a couple of days later. It was late in March, around the 28th I think. CMU does all their acceptance, rejections and waitlist at the same time and they are usually one of the last (but also not THE last). One humorous note: the CMU acceptance comes in a big fat envelope that says: “This is the official FAT letter.” No doubt what you are getting when you receive it. LOL

Can you be academically accepted to CMU even if not accepted in MT?

@ohmtmom - I think CMU does a “one shot” admission. Meaning they do not admit separately to the school and then to MT or acting (other schools do this, but not CMU to the best of my knowledge).

^^^that is correct re: CMU

I don’t think they consider you for academic admission until after they know they are strongly considering you for acting or MT. Then the academic bar for the program is low-- have to be in good standing at your HS and no felonies on your record. That’s what the admissions person told D when CMU visited her HS. Probably a bit exaggerated but the counselor said, if the department wants you, academics/test scores don’t matter much. So I would think you’d have to apply separately for other programs at CMU. It’s selective.

AH! Thanks,@MTDadandProud.

@toowonderful, I had a horse in the MT race last year but not the CMU race.

A HOLD is definitely worth a congrats! I know at CCM last year, we were told only 5% of applicants were put on hold. FYI, while we were at CCM for accepted students weekend, CMU released acceptances.

Anyone from Chicago unifieds heard from Ithaca yet?

I know NY UNIFIED auditioners should have been notified by now and some from Chicago, too!

@Dankadon did your son get a YES from Ithaca? Was he at Chicago? Crickets here, but portal still active. For the first time last night my D said she’s getting anxious for answers…NO or YES, she just wants replies. Next few weeks will be long! And we still have one trip this weekend!! Sigh.

@deelight -He was at NY Unifieds and got a letter and a no dated 2/2…portal disabled. As long as you can still access the portal there is hope ! He still has Elon audition 3/4 and then he’s done. He has two artistic acceptances but hoping for more choices

Hi everyone! I’ve lurked here for almost two years, but finally decided to make an account to say that I was rejected for Rider’s MT program, but accepted into their Theatre Performance program! I’m not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but I’m very excited

@Dankadon Thank you! Congrats on having two choices…and wishing you many more! Best of luck at Elon.

@littlebean37 Congrats - You should be very excited!

Is anyone going to OU callbacks tomorrow? BTW-that’s Oklahoma for those not from this region…

My daughter got some great news yesterday! After being on hold for CCM in the morning, we received an official acceptance later that day via email! A huge sigh of relief as this is one of her top choices! Best of luck to the MT Class of 2020- hope you all hear great news soon!

Woot-woot @Autmlvs615!!! What a relief for you! Thanks for cheering the rest of us on!

@MTDadandProud I remember kids posting pictures with the FAT letter on social media sites my S’s year! I wish all the schools would still send the big FAT YES envelope. It is such a treat.

Ah the thrill of victory, followed quickly by the agony of defeat. Yesterday: so happy (mixed with some confusion) about receiving a hold from CCM. Spirits lifted. Today, back to the usual upon hearing that two others (and many congrats to them) received same and a few hours later got admission offers. Now figuring WL at best? No idea. This seesaw is hard! Anyone have a vague idea of how many holds CCM usually gives out? Other question: how does one get one’s job done during the period from end of Feb through end of March. So hard to focus on anything but this, which is nuts!

I was also put on hold for CCM. I’ve been reading that they’ve told people in the past that they only put 5% of the people who auditioned on hold for MT each year. It’s really something to be proud of! Also, according to some current students at CCM, we should all know our status by the end of the day.

@theatrekid3 - Absolutely, on the proud part - and will cross fingers for you. Yikes, on the today part. We’ll see though - there always seem to be rumors which then don’t pan out. I think I won’t be sharing this one with my D, for sanity’s sake.
