Class of 2020 (sharing, venting, etc)

Hope everyone is staying strong through the rejections. D got a no from Pace today also. She handled it very well! Hang in there!!! Thinking of all of you. Excited for everyone’s good news and sad for everyone’s bad news. It will all work out!

Here is a bit of a distraction… my daughter posted this on her Facebook page. She wishes she would get paid every time someone asks her what her back up plan is… she has none

I’m a very impatient person with everything, and turns out the biggest thing about this process that I’m struggling with isn’t the rejections it’s the waiting. I have 14 schools to hear from. This is crazy. Only one rejection and one wait list and 14 schools left to hear from.

8 audition schools. 2 yes, 2 no, 4 to hear from and it is hard.

@allthatjazz12345 @sbc I FEEL YOU. 1 yes. 1 wl. 3 no. 12 to hear from.

My daughter is home for spring break so we talked about her audition last night. My daughter is currently a freshman music therapy major at BW, and she auditioned for the MT program a couple of weeks ago. All her eggs are in that basket - she loves the school. She shared with me that the week of her audition, when her studio had their weekly meeting, the professor announced that it was all about my D that day, and they had her sing all her prepared songs and she got a lot of helpful critique and technical assistance from her professor and the other students in the studio. (With their help, she was able to belt an Eb5 for her audition). So I understand that she loves the school and she feels very supported there, but I did let her know that if she didn’t get in and wanted to try to get into a program somewhere else for next year, I would support her. We’ll see how it goes. As the mom, I think they’d be crazy not to take her but…

@Irishmomof2 , that sounds amazing! What a great school - I hope she gets what she wants!

I did have a question. When my daughter auditioned for BW recently, they had her do her two “legit” songs, so she didn’t get a chance to belt at all. Do you think that is a problem? My daughter didn’t think the auditors knew the second song that they picked, and she was worried they wouldn’t know she could belt (although it is on her resume). Second guessing every choice right now!

@4Kids4Me I’ve seen several BW shows, senior and freshman showcases. They definitely have a well rounded class. @kategrizz can give you more information, but from an outsider it appears very talent diverse.

@4Kids4Me my daughter got some advice from current BW MT students, and they told her to NEVER announce the show from which your audition song came, because they said Vicky knows all the songs from all the shows. But she also said many of her friends only did legit singing at their auditions, so I think that’s pretty common. I wouldn’t get too worried about it!

@4Kids4Me - I agree with @IfYouOnlyKnew - BW is very diverse - there isn’t a “cookie cutter” type that they accept. There are girls who have beautiful legit sopranos as their strength, and others that have a power belt as their strength, and others who have more of a pop/rock strength… same with guys - all ranges - all types of voices - so I don’t think they are looking at “belt” vs “legit” - they are looking for someone they feel “fits” the program. From what I have heard Vicky say in the past - once they have determined that the vocal and acting is the calibre they seek - beyond that, they are looking for an energy from the student. (Yeah, that’s easy to pin down, right?) … and as @IfYouOnlyKnew can attest - the diversity extends to the ethnicity, height, etc. in the program… not just vocal diversity.

It does extend beyond vocal! I agree, didn’t mean to imply otherwise. Sorry @kategrizz, I was trying to speak to direct question. The overall diversity is by far one of the best I’ve observed during our process.

Thank you @IfYouOnlyKnew , @Irishmomof2 , @kategrizz - that sounds encouraging, and different from other programs we saw. My husband went to that audition, and he was very impressed. I wish we had found this forum BEFORE she auditioned!

I am fascinated that some of these schools can made a decision without speaking one word to a kid auditioning. Simply by hearing them sing and act. It amazes me. Some schools are chatty others not so much consistently but they all end up picking amazing talent.

@mtmamma2020, they also leave amazing talent behind, as can be seen by the number of successful gap year students or successful actors/singers who were turned down by college programs… I tend to think there is a huge amount of talent out there and it’s more that they are fishing in a bucket full of great fish.

@IfYouOnlyKnew - I didn’t think you did! - I just was emphasizing that the diversity extends beyond vocal type! <3

Oh good @kategrizz! YOU know that’s one of things I admire most about BW program, but other posters don’t. I would never want to convey that message to anyone reading and looking for information.

My daughter said she got an email from BW saying they would email decisions on the 10th.

Yep, that’s what my D heard, too.

Anyone heard from Wagner?

I agree with @kategrizz. One of the seniors who blew me away last year was a legit soprano. They need all types!
