Class of 2021 (Discussing application season, sharing, venting)

@nifmom @marg928 OISH! A white box!!! Wishing both your son and daughter a white box! Im not sure I can bare to check this thread until we hear!

@nifmom @marg928 @EMVP66 Last year the open house invites were received the same day as the box. So fingers crossed that this year is the same since none of us have received anything yet. Boxes were mailed today so should be Saturday for us! Fingers and toes crossed!

The waiting is the worst! Except, I think my daughter is enjoying the reprieve, dreading when she actually has to choose. She is waiting on Texas State for BFA Acting still… I’ve heard a couple of people who know they’ve been accepted or waitlisted, but we haven’t heard anything. Does anyone know how they notify? Assuming she’s not in, but I think she’s still hoping.

@homeschoolmama My D has a friend who already received a rejection from Texas State (but got into UCLA!) so maybe not hearing is a good sign.

@homeschoolma my S heard from Texas State via Acceptd

I literally think that if I see that white box I might pass out!

@marg928 me too! From the hefty price tag lol!

@marg928 @portalupdateplz Not holding my breath here in NC! will probably see on the portal Sunday before any white box would arrive anyway

Do CMU BFA acting acceptances get phone calls or is it strictly magic portal? And have those phone calls been made?

@Alli217 I’ve read in a post elsewhere that at least one has been called for BFA Acting at CMU. I followed up to ask if they were redirected from MT and they responded not a redirect. Meanwhile, nothing but crickets and telemarketers calling here these days, so I’m not optimistic about what the portal will reveal for my D.

Still waiting for Syracuse to make their decision known - the last holdout for us.

On another, more personal, matter - we did a day-visit to Muhlenberg today and it was a day well spent. In short, the campus is very pretty, although more compact than we were expecting. The Arts Center is simply amazing, and the facilities are really, really good. We did a general campus tour and info session in the am and then met Mr. Richter for a Theater Dept tour and in-depth info/Q&A session with one other student, who is still a junior and interested in MT. (He was there from LA and he & his dad were planning to drive to go see CMU at 4pm!) He and my D were invited to sit in on an acting class - Scene Study, which my D said was interesting. She is happy we made the trip.

Before the Theater tour, my D was ambivalent about the school. She said she could see her self happy there, but she wasn’t excited about it. After hearing about the program, I think she believes she would have a truly excellent experience if she decides to attend. I won’t go into detail here unless people ask since it is not audition-required unless going for talent scholarship.)

@Alli217 CMU Acting acceptances are called. I know quite a few people have already been called, so “guessing” the calls are pretty much finished.
@LuvsLabs D has a few friends at Muhlenberg and they love it!

@LuvsLabs I toured Muhlenberg with my D21 when she was applying to dance programs. I really liked it…especially the dining hall…WOW! I was actually shocked that she got in…it’s an academic admit and they are very selective. My D didn’t have anywhere near their average SAT score and not one AP class but I guess they liked something about her! She did do the scholarship audition as well and got maybe $8000…the school wasn’t for her though. She really had her heart set on NYC and Allentown, PA is certainly far from that! I can remember going to lunch after the audition and looking at the brochure and seeing the price tag…I believe it was $47K at the time with R&B and I pretty much scratched it off the list for that reason. I can’t believe that four years later that sounds cheap! I will tell you though that my D18’s friend is a freshman there. She was the star of every high school show for four years but is not majoring in theater there. However, she had a main role in their fall production of Salome (as a freshman) so know that non-theater majors are auditioning alongside theater majors.

My D was notified today that she received a scholarship to AADA…yeah it’s always the school you’re probably not going to that gives you the money LOL

@LuvLabs - did the CMU tour people (at muhlenberg) leave enough time to get to Pittsburgh? Pennsylvania is a LONG state to drive across…

@theatremom10 I wonder how many kids they lose due to the wait. In other words, UCONN is making some pretty great offers to my daughter and HARTT is going to have to blow her away with scholarship money to make her even want to go there anymore. I think that their wait time may hurt them in the long run.

@LuvLABS My daughter is going to Muhlenberg for BA in Theater. She applied ED and has known since January. She has strong academics and decided not to go the auditioned BFA route.

She knows no one who is going to this college - decided on her own after a family friend recommended it. PM me if you are interested in more details.

I am in awe of the actors (and supporting families) who have done all these auditions this season. What amazing preparation for the acting life!

I thought I shared this already, but I just realized I posted in the MT forum by mistake.

D was rejected by Syracuse today, so that’s that. She was accepted to UArts and doesn’t want it anymore and was waitlisted at Marymount (she already emailed them to make sure they knew she’d attend if she comes off WL and radio silence so far.)

Wishing much better results than ours to everyone who is still waiting! Thanks for all the great info & support - we really could not even have done this well without all the history on CC, and I’d be raving insane (or divorced!) without this board to direct my endless questions, hopes, impatience and anxiety toward!

Thank you one and all! <3

@VAOptimist - It’s great that your D is happy to attend Muhlenberg and spared herself this intense experience - the worst for us was this month, with the hopeful waiting and then the repeated unhappy results. I hope my D can become happy with the BA options she has at some really good schools! I think she could be very happy at Muhlenberg - maybe our girls will meet one day!

@LuvsLabs sending virtual hugs

@LuvsLabs - I already sent my hugs on the MT board - but I wanted to add, you (and your D) are part of the family and we ALL are rooting and believing in you. There are many paths, many surprises, and as you have already learned, many wounds. But it’s all part of the journey. Keep your eyes on the future, have your D keep working- and no matter what comes next, there is always the potential for great things to happen
