Playbill’s new Big 10: The 10 Most Represented Colleges on Broadway in the 2017-2018 Season is out on their website now. I know this isn’t a predictor of anyone’s future success, but still it’s nice to see my D’s program ranked right up there.
@marg928 -
Why don’t you have your D change the email to yours and you can sort through the auditions for her and see which, if any, would be appropriate - at least for the short run, while she is adjusting to college?
That’s an idea but I doubt she’ll go for it. Since she turned 18 in March she doesn’t want me even speaking on her behalf! But I will run it by her if it becomes a problem now that classes have start.
Anyone know anything about the National Theatre Institute at Connecticut College? I understand they have a semester program for both theatre and musical theatre. Their website says that credits may transfer to your 4 yr college and that your financial aid may also apply. Would appreciate any info from those in the 'know". Thanks!
@daughtersdreams is it a summer program? Never heard of it…but then again I’m really not a theater mom!
This is a great post, even if I’m reading it late. When you say to hire a coach, what kind of coach are you talking about, one to help with auditions or college selection?
@rokkahulababy - The coaches referred to in the Theatre and MT threads are college audition coaches that help with auditions and college list building, etc.
Hip hip hooray my D got a paying job on campus at LMU. She’s going to be working as a casting coordinator for student run film production studio! :D/
That is so cool @marg928
LMU seems awesome!
@FourStars You are right that you mostly have to go to college websites to find out which requires a prescreen. But you can get an idea by going to one the websites used by colleges for prescreens and looking to see what college programs are listed.
Not all of these programs require prescreens - some of them just offer the option of a video audition if you can’t make it to in-person auditions. However, this is a handy website because you can click on the college names and get a quick synopsis of what that college requires for applications (be that prescreen or not).
One widely used website is called getacceptd .com When you go to the webpage, click on Find Programs and then select Interest “Theatre” and then: Open & Closed. This will give you a list to scroll through. You can also search for a college name. (You do not have to create an account to view info, only when you’re ready to upload a prescreen.)
Hope this helps.
Thank you @daughtersdreams! I will check it out from getacceptd.com. The list is never ending, but we will get there!
D just texted me looking for her SSN card - she got a work study job at Madison Theatre at Molloy College. Hooray for paychecks!
@CentralOHmomof4 someone I graduated elementary school with is the Dean of Admissions there…too bad I didn’t think of that this time last year! Never even thought to visit the school…dumb dumb dumb!
I wish my d had time for a job, I cannot believe how busy she is, her day starts at 9 and ends at 7 or sometimes at 9!O Glad she loves it, sounds like hell to me
an article regarding Top BFA Acting programs for 2017-18. I was surprised by a few. http://www.onstageblog.com/columns/2017/9/18/the-top-10-bfa-acting-programs-in-the-country-for-2017-18
Always take these articles and reviews with a grain of salt…but it is wonderful when you see your child’s school listed . <3
Thank you @daughtersdreams! this really helps. I am starting the deep dive…
Its hard to keep track of all the requirements and deadlines. D still working on her common app essay and I am trying to organize the list and deadlines for her. Seems some also want an artist statement. and still others need pre-screeners.
I started a FB page for parents of the class of 2021. It’s called CC Parents Theater Class of 2021…hope to see you there!
@marg928 I tried to search for it but couldn’t find it
@theatremom10 and @marg928 You have to search FB under the tab for “Groups”. Then it comes up.
