Class of 2021 Waitlist

@phantomweasel, congratulations! Thx for the willingness to provide more insight; I sent you a PM to hope to learn more.

Seems crazy that no regular posters have gotten a call this week, but in looking at other waitlist threads it looks like a crazy year…

Hey guys. Sorry didn’t post sooner but I got off waitlist on May 3rd. I didn’t accept the spot but just letting you know that they started it pretty early…

@jakegrossman, thx for the update! Where you headed?

I have been accepted to Middlebury College from the waitlist last Sunday and I am definitely going there. I have written a strong pathos appealing letter to them, my college counselor called the Admissions Officer and told them I am committed, and my school’s head of school sent a rec letter to the Admissions Officer.

@Godismyshepherd, congrats! - hope they have some more slots remaining

Does anyone know if this is typical as I know Middlebury announced admission results last week, but there was no mention of whether they went to the waitlist.

I think it’ll be harder to get off the waitlist this year. Middlebury got a record number of students that accepted their spots in the classes of 2021 and 2021.5 which means they probably don’t need to accept as many students off of the waitlist as those in previous years. Hopefully, your daughter does get in-- maybe I’ll be seeing her in the fall!

@dddddddd2021, agree as there was also record yield at Harvard, Dartmouth, Williams, etc., I would expect that all of the top schools experienced the salme. I assume Hamilton where she was admitted will show the same. Fingers crossed!

I am surprised anyone is getting off the waitlist when so many more students are matriculating than usual!
There was some thread I read somewhere here (couldn’t find it again) that had a link to Middlebury’s own statement commenting on its being a historic record yield this year.
As a parent of a high school junior, I am wondering what this will mean for next year’s admissions cycle. I would guess that fewer students might be admitted next year, so that there is enough housing, etc.

^ Go to Middlebury’s website. Go to Newsroom. Read article under “Middlebury Attracts Largest Incoming Class in Years.” Sounds like they got a lot more students than they were expecting.

If I had a child on Middlebury’s waitlist, I would be encouraging that child to let themselves start falling in love with the school to which they already have sent their deposit. Forget Middlebury unless a pleasant surprise happens.

I wonder how housing and class sizes will be affected this year by the record size of the freshman class-- wil there be any adverse impact?-- and will this impact other years’ cohorts as well?-- and how next year’s admissions cycle will be affected.

Why would housing or class sizes at Middlebury be affected? Since Midd has already taken students from the waitlist, they will presumably meet their target for size of the incoming class. If Midd were oversubscribed, there would be no admits from the waitlist.

A portion of freshman admits will be taking a gap year so even if they are “over” their target size admissions wise they probably still need the waitlist to get an exact handle on the number who will show up in September and February.

Anyone hearing anything about more movement on the waitlist or when they expect to close it out?

Any updates as of June 1st?

Should we assume that, with the exception of potential summer melt, acceptance off the waitlist Is over?

@Chembiodad I’d call admissions and ask them directly.

DD isn’t on the ledge as the school she committed to is a great choice, but at the same time closure would be nice - anyone know if an email will be sent out that the waitlist is closed?

Has anyone spoken to or gotten an email confirmation that the waitlist is closed?

My daughter just got an email stating that their enrollment is complete and they won’t pull any more from the waitlist.
