Class of 2022 Rice RD Discussion Thread

Any idea when decisions are coming out? Before April 1st?

How do you know more students were deferred this year? Did you hear this from an admissions officer??

After reading the link that Faulkner1897 posted about the new process for reading applications I am still not sure how a candidate would draw a conclusion as to their odds being better or worse in the old system. I guess a person with some bad grades to explain might think it would be easier to put them past one person rather than a team of two? Either way that step is only the first round of the admissions process and at a school like Rice you don’t stand much of a chance for admission with bad grades on your transcript unless you can score touchdowns or pay for a new science building.

How do you know this?

Article about increase in number of applications and new method of reading applications. http://news.rice.edu/2018/03/14/rice-receives-record-20898-applications/

Will try to keep spirits up, even with that article.

Does anyone know what date decisions will be posted?

Maybe the 23rd?

Got accepted to a school only a few ranks above Rice, and now mom won’t let me even look at Texas. After being my first choice for months, Rice has been forcefully removed from my list because it is too far and “not ranked high enough.” Not like I was expecting to get in anyways, but I am disappointed that I no longer have the chance. :-S

I rather go to Rice than John Hopkins any day of the week @anxiouswreck Rice is also likely cheaper if you get in. And a few ranks?! thats so splitting hairs its not even funny

Be less selfish with your kids down the road. Where one goes to college should be driven by best fit and affordability along with the best school one gets into within reason as to “best”. A couple of places in a ranking boils down to subjective beauty contest rather precise science.

Im praying I get into Rice. Got rejected from JHU, Northeastern, Duke (ED) Waitlisted At Washington University St Louis, and accepted to Georgia Tech for CS. Lol college admission is a roller coaster of emotions

@anxiouswreck wait until you find out all of your admissions/scholarships/financial aid then sit down and have a conversation with your parents about pros, cons, fit, etc. Maybe they will come around.

I’m in a similar boat,

Accepted UT Cockrell
Rejected WashU
Rejected Johns Hopkins
Deferred Rice

@anxiouswreck I’m a mom…and on several lists- Rice ranks higher than Hopkins. We will wait until all acceptances and offers are in… before my son makes his decision. I’m sure your parents are anxious to get this done…it’s been a long winter of waiting-

For all of you waiting on Rice, who may have received acceptances already and will certainly receive more over the next few weeks - I encourage you to select your future school based on personal fit academically, personally, and financially. Not based on ranking. If possible, visit your top candidates. Explore the campus, research the academics, experience what the students and community are like first hand.

On another thread, a student who was applying to transfer from one school to another (not Rice) wrote “an important part of the college experience, in my opinion, is being able to build yourself as a person in an environment that is optimal to do so”. I wrote this down because it really resonated.

Good luck to everyone!

Has anyone heard the deferred stats yet? Just curious.

Rice will release decisions by Friday 23rd at 4:30pm. Just got email. best to all!

Oof decisions posted this Friday. Good luck everyone!
