Waiting is going to be tough!
I am super excited to finally know whether i’m in or not
Has anyone heard any additional Rice updates?
Owl Days dates have been posted:
Owl Days – Wednesday, April 11 – Friday, April 13, 2018
Owl Days is a three-day program for admitted students featuring academic panels, class visitation, tours, student-led activities, and a two-night stay in the residential colleges. Students are paired with lunch and overnight hosts to share and engage with them about the Rice student experience.
Admit Days – Monday, April 9 and Monday, April 16, 2018
Each Admit Day is a single-day program, featuring a student panel, an academic panel, lunch in the residential colleges, and various opportunities to meet with faculty and staff. Admit Days provide an alternative for students unable to attend Owl Days.
Also, the time for the decision release is 4:30PM is in central time! So 5:30 for east coast, right?
Last year it came out at 4 Central Time. Since a lot of applicants are from Texas, Rice probably wants it to be after their school day is over. Good Luck to everyone that applied. I hope you will be joining my daughter as an owl next year.
For the west coast, it’s 2:30pm and students are still in school. Tough to not check for another hour.
Strange to release at 4:30, why not 4 or 5
the email actually says “by 4:30 p.m. CT…” not at 4:30.
u r correct, by 4:30. I’m EST so i will just wait for a notification or I will do it myself by 7PM EST. lol
5:30 EST @JayZee21
Does Rice use the rightest score you got on the SAT to judge your application?
Rice super scores, I believe
Rice does superscore within the same version of the tests (within OLD SATs and within NEW SATs, but not across). https://futureowls.rice.edu/futureowls/Standardized_Tests.asp
It’s midnight for me.
Does Rice waitlist those who were deffered?
I don’t see reason for them not to @Rolen3
Most schools don’t waitlist those who have been deferred.
Either way, according to Rice’s CDS, only one kid got in from the waitlist in 2016 so don’t get your hopes up too much. Best of luck to everyone come this Friday!
The wait list varies dramatically from year to year (as it does at most colleges). Last year, the yield was higher than anticipated leading to the class of 2021 freshman class being overenrolled, so not sure if any got off the wait list. In previous years within the past 5 cycles, anywhere from 127-150 got in off the wait list (but there were also years where only 4 and 1 got in). So you never know. My guess is that Rice will be a bit more conservative with the number of admitted students for class of 2022 to avoid another overenrolled situation, and go to the wait list if needed.
