@collage99 rice gives 25.5k to domestic applicants and I believe have a full tuition one for internationals. I also believe it would be a separate letter in your applicant portal.
Last year the students that got merit aid had a link in their admission letter to the merit aid award. I believe the ED decisions this year also had a link. Rice gives some merit but many students are admitted without merit awards. Rice claims to meet full need. If you are looking for something fun about Rice to read look at this story about the upside dorm room Martel College built for Willy week. My daughter is in Martel (which she says is the best residential college). http://news.rice.edu/2018/03/22/rice-u-students-build-an-upside-down-room-for-willy-week/ Every Rice student thinks his or her residential college is the best.
Will they all be released at 4:30 or will they be in waves?
@pumpkinpi314 they will all be released at the same time.
@MaybeHarvard2022 Where did you read that? Since it says “by 4:30,” it seems like they’ll do it in waves.
Also, everyone who’s waiting for decisions tomorrow - best of luck! We’re finally done with all that waiting!!
And for those who are worried about getting in: if you really portrayed interest in Rice, your chances are increased @Dando2 . Rice cares a lot about an applicant’s interest in a school (not only based on what they state on their website, but based on my conversations with many, many current Rice students ). This translates to visits, interviews, and truly understanding Rice’s culture. Of course, you need the stats too Hopefully this helps those of you who are discouraged…you never know what will happen!
Good luck, everyone! I’m rooting for all of you!
@classical774 That type of wording is used by all colleges, but it means that that is the time decisions will be released (and in some cases a few minutes before). Rice has never done waves, all decisions are released at once.
@MaybeHarvard2022 Huh, okay! Just curious, because Yale ED results were supposed to come out at 6:00 this past December, but my friend got her results at 4:00. Also since Rice used the wording “by April 1st” when they’re releasing tomorrow lol

Our Esther ID is a letter and 8 numbers. It comes in an email entitled: Rice Financial Aid Status & ESTHER login. Mine doesn’t work.
BTW, in Esther under Personal Information, does everybody have, Students - Release or Withhold Directory Information. I never noticed it before, but maybe it’s just wishful thinking.
@“Maschinenmädchen” The NetID is 7 digits, not 8. Plus, I also believe that your ESTHER ID is strictly used for financial aid purposes. So don’t worry, there’s still hope:)
@“Maschinenmädchen” and mine has it too!! I’m not exactly sure if it’s an indication of admission, but I don’t think I remember it being there before…I could be mistaken though. What makes me think it might be there for everyone is the subtitle of the section that says “to be used by students only” or something to that effect, but who knows! Either way I wish you luck:)

The “Rice University User ID” is the number I am talking about. If you look at the examples provided on the login page, it is the same number.
The reason I provided the link was because for Case Western, if one was able to login to the CWRU Canvas, it meant him or her was accepted. I attempted to do the same for Rice, as Rice has a Canvas account as well. The Rice Canvas required a NetID and so, I tried to create a NetID using the Rice University User ID I was provided. It didn’t work for me, so I was wondering if it would work for someone else.
It was a long shot, haha. We’ll find out in a few hours anyways. Good luck!
@AverageTeen2000 That’s kind of a neat way to get around all the waiting! I thought that all of the different IDs we were given wouldn’t work because they were all longer than 7 digits, like the set-up states that you need, but I honestly could be wrong. Have you looked into what @“Maschinenmädchen” said about the Personal Information tab on ESTHER? That might be worth a look.
Good luck to you as well!! Rice is my dream school and I’m really hoping everything works out–I’m so nervous to find out that I can’t sleep.
Sorry to everyone that I’m sort of spamming this but if you see this please check your ESTHER. I want to know if everyone has this. As discussed earlier, there seems to be a new section of “Personal Information” on ESTHER called “Students–Release or Withhold Directory Information”. For me, when I clicked on it, it brought up a form that it said I needed to print out and have my guardians sign to have my info released to any Rice directory because I’m under 18. Additionally, toward the bottom there’s a link that says “E-Signature Form List”, and when I clicked on it, it brought up a page with this at the top:
“On this page you will find a list of forms to review and sign. Forms that you must complete are listed under Form List. Forms which are available publicly, but not assigned specifically to you are listed under Public Questionnaires. Next to each form is the status (Complete/Incomplete), your current response, and the due date. Click on the title to access a form.”
There were two items in the list, one was the directory and the other was titled “Campus Housing Agreement 2018-2019” and both of these forms were under “form list” and not “public questionnaire.”
Does everyone have this? I feel I may be reading to far into this but all of these things seem oddly indicative. Oh well, I guess I’ll know for sure tomorrow!
@hopefulowl1011 I, too, have those exact forms. I’ve had my ESTHER account for a while now but, sadly, never really looked into the personal information section to remember whether those options were there before.
@blaze077 Shoot. Well, it probably doesn’t mean anything then–or hey, maybe we both got in!! (Probably the former, the latter really is wishful thinking). I was really hoping because there was a lot of red text telling me that I had to fill out and turn these forms in, but I’m sure just having those documents on everyone’s accounts makes it easier for them. And yeah, I wish I had paid a lot more attention to what was in the portal. Maybe someone with a photographic memory or something will come along and tell us lol.
Thank you for looking and good luck!!
@hopefulowl1011 I sure hope it’s the latter. Good luck to you too! Tomorrow’s gonna be one long day…
@hopefulowl1011 I have the Students–Release or Withhold Directory Information and authorization form in my ESTHER as well
@hopefulowl1011 @blaze077 I have access to the same stuff too… And the chances of all three of us getting in are next to 0, considering that I’m an international student asking for near full fin aid
I don’t see the personal information section? where is it?
