Don’t laugh too hard that I ask this…but which schools have late application deadlines beyond 12/1 for a BFA program? I know of: Pace, Calarts.
@123Mimi - you may want o look at the thread below. It was on the MT board but is likely applicable for Acting as well.
@123Mimi - If Chicago is an option, Roosevelt University/Chicago College of Performing Arts has a strong MT program. The application is still open. It’s located downtown, very vibrant atmosphere. Teachers/profs are working actors & directors. Lot’s of opportunity to see and get close to theater scene in Chicago. My S has a friend there - he loves it. Auditions on campus and NY/CH/LA Unifieds, and a few other locations.
Thanks, @actingdreams! I hope your “gut feeling” is right! “From your mouth to God’s ears,” as my mom likes to say.
And good point about the sibling factor - I never thought of that!
@123mimi, I know Brooklyn College has a deadline in January for BFA application. I think Adelphi does too (but check because I’m not 100% sure).
Here’s are some threads about other BFA programs with late deadlines:
@123Mimi - DePaul (BFA, Acting, stage managing & tech – no MT) accepts applications through Dec, into January.
anyone from last year’s group remember how long Pace auditions might last at Chicago Unifieds? (location Joffrey Ballet) if it starts at 10 am- do I need to block off a huge chunk of time? Also- one other question… U Arts said no dance/ just voice and monologue- so if a different auditon is scheduled for an hour after the U Arts start time will that cut it too close? or totally fine? I just don’t know what Unifieds will be like so I am trying to make sure our shedule is actually logistically possible. THANKS!!!
Pace asks you block off 4 hours (at least that is what they did before). MT took the whole time. BFA acting takes the whole time if you are called back. The other programs may be shorter depending on numbers auditioning that day and how long you have to wait.
For u arts it will take about 10-15 min once in the door. An hour after should be ok unless they are running way behind and you have to travel a ways to next audition.
@savedrama4momma, your D should be fine with an audition an hour after UArts. My D and the adjudicator talked a long time after her audition at UArts at Chicago Unifieds, plus there was a dance component then (a segment prepared by D), and it still took under a 1/2 hour—actually, about 15-20 minutes.
Heading to Ithaca acting audition on 12/9. Does anyone know the format or how long it lasts? Will anyone be there?
@123Mimi UNCSA has a couple January deadlines to apply depending on when you want to audition.
SUNY Fredonia has auditions in February 10 and March 3 for BFA Acting Program, but I don’t know about prescreens or deadlines because my child is a tech student. It also has a non audition Theater BA and students are allowed to audition for the BFA once they are in. Actually, anyone who is declined from the BFA is allowed a second shot, even if they choose to attend a different school, but admission depends on the needs of the cohort as well as everything else.
Hello! For Ithaca College, please does anyone have information about the relationship between the MT and Acting programs? We can not find any information on the website easily. Thank you!
Busy weekend for us! Tonight I’m seeing my daughter perform in her high school musical. Tomorrow I’m taking my son to his audition at Adelphi (please send good vibes!!!), then we’re staying for a freshman showcase. On Sunday, I’m seeing my daughter’s show again. ( She isn’t performing on Saturday because her show is double cast, which is good because it means I can focus entirely on my son and his audition that day.) Hope everyone has a great weekend!
@actorparent1 - your plate is FULL! All the best to both kids!
@FourStars my D is a freahman MT at Ithaca just messaged you.
Lots of schools had on-campus auditions Dec. 9th. Any good stories to share?
My son enjoyed his audition at Adelphi. It was a pretty standard audition: each kid went in one by one to do their monologues. My son thought his went well - he felt very “in the moment” doing both monologues, and they auditors chuckled during his comedic Shakespeare monologue. Meanwhile, in the waiting room, there were some friendly drama seniors available to answer questions about the program while the kids were waiting their turn to go in. My son said they were all very friendly and he loved everything they said about the program. He really hopes he gets in!
Meanwhile, I was in the cafeteria, and I was chatting with a mom from Arizona whose daughter was auditioning. The daughter had researched all the schools, and loved Adelphi so much that they actually flew in from Arizona just for this audition! They didn’t even have any other NY auditions that weekend (they’re coming back in January for those). Given that Adelphi does accept video auditions, I thought it showed huge commitment to fly in from Arizona just to audition on campus. I told the mom they should accept her daughter for that alone – talk about “demonstrated interest”!
Hello! My D had her audition at Ithaca on campus on December 9th. I will try to give a quick summary. Arrival was 8am, for an 8:30 orientation. We arrived at 8:05 and it took us a few passes to find the actual building, Dillingham Center. She stood in a line to pick up the paperwork, and sign-in. The overview was very well done by the head of the program. They took the students for their warm-ups. My D said that was pretty straightforward. Meanwhile, parents got more Q&A with students. And, they announced the ORDER in which students would be seen in the two studios. The order was determined by WHEN you submitted your application. I think there were about 20-22 students in each studio. They took three at a time to go wait near the studio and then runners came to collect the next students on deck. The runners were current students and kept students relaxed and informed. My D did her two monologues in a room with two faculty. The interview followed in the same room, and lasted another 3-5 minutes. When you were done, you were done! That’s it! Message me for specific questions!
@actorparent1 Adelphi was on the original long list last year but I really couldn’t find too much info on the program. I’m glad to hear more about it!
My D has her on campus audition at The Hartt School (U of Hartford) on Saturday. The organization of the day was very clear which is nice bc everything else is stress inducing. My D went into the movement call with the faculty member and a few students. D said it went really well but it was physically challenging. While she was in the movement call I attended the parent meeting with Alan Rust. He’s shifting the acting program to have 3 acting tracks; classical, physical and TV/film. I found the focus on actor training (even for MT’s) to be a draw. I thought Alan was real nice but he scared my D!
She went in and his “gruffness” completely threw her off. She said she was able to compose herself and do her monologues. He did not give her any direction or ask to do the monologues again. He did know a few folks on D’s resume and asked about that. Alan recommended D shadow a student and come see a show.
I have no idea how to react to these auditions or give D any help. It’s such a mind twister and trying to not think about it is impossible! I don’t know how people make it to March! Ack!
