Actually, UNCG is now set up to let students audition in the spring to start BFA as freshman. They have 2 more audition dates available.
@ginaf1102 My daughter is a freshman MT at Hartt and loves it. The training is top notch and she has grown tremendously in just her first semester. I was able to see two plays there when I visited her right before she came home for Thanksgiving break and was honestly just blown away by the professionalism and talent of the Junior and Senior AT and MT students in the shows. And try not to read too much into anything at the auditions - you just never know. Alan and team were super professional and a little intimidating when my daughter auditioned, not super chatty or overtly friendly like some other schools so she had no read at all in terms of her standing until she received her acceptance. Best of luck to your daughter!
Thank you @sopranomtmom. Your post is so helpful. My D emailed a thank you yesterday to Alan and he immediately responded, which is totally appreciated and speaks to his professionalism. Thanks for helping us parents āin the thick of itā get some insight.
Hello. I just want to report that USC auditions invitations finally went out today. Also we tracked down her Michigan invite which had gone missing. At least the schedule is fairly set. Now we pray for no snowstorms on audition dates!
Finally received the USC audition confirmation, but of course the assigned time conflicts with 3 other auditions. We were THIS close to having the puzzle together
Son did not get into Adelphi. Oh, well. Moving onā¦
@actorparent1 Sorry to hear that. Iām sure heās going to get good news soon. I imagine it must be a lot harder as a transfer.
@actorparent1 Ugh. Sorry to hear that. Iām sure heās going to get good news soon. I imagine it must be a lot harder as a transfer.
Thanks, @Twoboysandadog. He was thinking that too, that being a transfer may be working against him.
@actorparent1 hugs. To you and to him.
Did he apply to the New School or U Arts? I know U arts accepts transfers and i think the new school may too.
there are still plenty of auditions to go. He just needs one. It will happen.
@ginaf1102 My D is also a freshman at Hartt. My report is similar to @sopranomtmom. Hartt has been a fantastic experience for my D. She has grown tremendously after only one semester. We are very impressed with the caliber of training and the experiences offered. Alan Rust is (though a little intimidating) very involved in the day-to-day operations of each of the programs and he knows most students by name! He and the rest of the faculty at Hartt truly care about their students and graduating employable actors. My D had several MT acceptances and is happy that she chose Hartt. Best of luck to your D!
Fredonia has BFA MT auditions March 24th too. That is when my D goes
My son is also at Fredonia but in the BFA Tech program. I think itās a great program and it does take transfers from what my son says.
My son did get into Adelphi, as a BFA tech major, but as noted, he is at SUNY Fredonia. Although he is 8+ hours away rather than 20 minutes, I donāt regret his choice and neither does he.
Happy New Year!!! Wishing everyone acceptances to your dream schools in 2018!!!
Happy New Year! This has been such a ride. Only 5 more weeks of work and an additional 5 weeks of stressful
waiting :))
@actorparent and @actingdreams - thank you and Happy New Year to you! What an exciting few months we have ahead - and totally crazy. This cold and snow in the Northeast has me thinking of back up plans! I fear āsnowmageddon of 2017ā. I have also started to think about how to make all of these audition experiences fun and each unique - or how to ease a bad one - especially at unifieds. Any veterans have ideas or tips on how to go into this āaudition seasonā with a parental ābag o tricksā to keep our actors at their best?
After a huge disappointment two years ago on day two of unifieds i thought my D may not recover. I left her alone (her request) and let her cry a lot. She had friends nearby who came and hung out with her. She woke up and kicked butt the next day -in fact got called back and/or admitted to all of the following schools she auditioned for.
She said that since she knew āxā was out, she better kill it at others so she has options. Where she ended up truly is a much better fit for her and she knew that immediately after her audition and hearing about her current program (she knew little about it, other than in name, prior to that).
It has been said beforeā-where they start off at the beginning of the process can change for many reasons. Have faith and follow your childās lead for what he/she needs.
We apparently needed the executive floor room with more privacy (but didnāt have it) so i spent lots of time in the hotel lobby.
Honestly my biggest fear for my D at the start was what actually happened to her. Couldnāt have been prouder that she got back up and tried again. Our kids are nothing if not resilient.
Like @bfahopeful - My D also got a big kick in the shins early in the process that proved to be both a blessing in disguise, and a huge motivation. Disappointments are (unfortunately) a HUGE part of theater, itās good for kids to learn to rise again early on.
As for fun and distraction - while in Chicago for unifieds we did NOT stay at the Palmer (in part b/c we had points that would make a different hotel free, in part b/c 1/2 auditions were not at the Palmer, and in part b/c I feared that the Palmer would be too chaotic, and that we would benefit from a little distance). We stayed on Michigan Ave - and in the evenings D (and a couple friends) were able to go eat, shopping etc. The best time was their afternoon of āfantasy prom shoppingā at the high end stores of the miracle mile
The One day she needed to be at the Palmer for both a morning and afternoon audition - we spent the time in between at the art institute 2 blocks away rather than hanging around in the lobby - itās one of our favorite places and helped D keep a good headspace and focus on what she needed to do rather than getting rattled by all the frenetic energy in the hotel.
I completely understand. Itās supposed to be -20 today. Weāre dealing with 2 punches here. 1. Itās our first college experience with a child and weāre dealing with this extra work to get into school with auditions and traveling The only thing we have going for us is that the train right behind our house and it takes us Directly in front of the Unifeds Hotels 10 minutes away ( itās so cold, maybe weād uber there lol)
Although Unifeds is here, weāre having to audition for so many and have to fly to NYC to get in a few more auditions at the end of this month. Everything feels so rushed right now
We are literally flying in for 2 days and hoping that there arenāt any canceled flights. That would be the downside of all of this. If you are coming to Chicago for Unifeds and need some directions or ideas, please let me know or inbox me. Weāre about an 10 minute train ride to everything surrounding the hotels
if youāre going to NYC, I wouldnāt be able to point you to a specific direction as we have many friends that we visit frequently in all parts near manhatten from Brooklyn to Harlem. My Idea in my head is to arrive and get to a couple of our favorite restaurants for breakfast and dinner next day and hopefully do amazing at the auditions but we must return soon after
