I forgot to add that “fun” during unifieds for us was seeing a couple shows on broadway and a fun restaurant here or there. (All Pre-planned).
Last year while at Unifieds my D and her friends went to a show at Second City. It was a highlight of the week; something she talks about all the time. I think that a night of laughs hit the spot, as it does get intense-especially when our kids are comparing notes with their friends on each and every audition.
The way our kids deal with setbacks is one of the most inspiring (and devastating) parts of this process. Learning to bounce back is absolutely crucial for later as well.
Hi @actorparent1 I love to see the outcome of post like this, it’s usually divinely better. So many were rejected from schools they may have thought were promising and then accepted into Juilliard or some other Dream School that was such a far reach. Those are great stories. I’m sure you will have one to share soon enough
Question for our expert parents who went through this process last year- We know most schools ask you if you have any questions at the end of the audition. What are some good key questions that might give my D some insight about the program. She wants to be prepared with some quality options about what to ask when put on the spot. Thanks!!!
Is anyone else surprised by some very talented kids that are not passing Pace’s MT prescreens? And still being accepted with scholarships? Really shocked at all the rejections from Pace MT prescreens…
@fancytheatrekid - regarding Pace, I have never heard of anyone denied academically. In fact every single person I know who has applied to pace has also received a scholarship, including a kid who didn’t break 20 on his ACT (but is super talented and had multiple BFA offers)
@savedrama4momma - search on the MT board - I remember there being a long thread of great questions (that I need to find too!) posted maybe last year. Now going to look - if I find it I’ll post the link.
@fancytheatrekid I am quite surprised. D has friends from her PA HS - talented kids - who did not pass. Seems they are taking a much harder look at the prescreens this year.
@toowonderful Wow! Everybody gets into Pace academically, huh? Dang, thought we were special Good to know though! Only want BFA though-so goodbye Pace! My D passed U of Michigan prescreens though -so weird how all of this works. well in a few months, we will all know where they are headed!
@fancytheatrekid Pace offers BFA’s
@actingdreams I know D didn’t pass prescreens for MT. Just meant we won’t be going there for anything else.
It sounds like something better and that blessing in disguise for her <3 Can’t wait to see what happens
@fancytheatrekid - I am hardly an expert… and Pace was not on my D’s list, so I have zero direct experience. Their published overall acceptance rate is 66% so obviously people do get denied. But I can tell you that in 5 years if obsessive CC reading, I have never seen anyone on the theater/MT Forum post about an academic denial, most posts are about the huge scholarships offered and pestering phone calls from admissions. Within my own knowledge, I have known well over a dozen kids who have applied to Pace, Some strong students some not. All were academically accepted, all offered scholarships.
It’s true…I’ve never heard of anyone being academically denied to Pace and I’m an alum and so is my daughter. I think their acceptance rate is 87% according to Naviance. Interestingly though, my nephew just applied as a transfer and got no scholarship which surprised me.
Hello again! Here we all go! January is a big month for most of us, right? My D has 9 auditions, plus mid-terms, ugh. Quick question: on the college resume, would you include an Agent, if you have one? I have heard yes and no.
@FourStars I have no advice on the agent thing-but break legs! That IS a busy month!
hi @FourStars I actually listened to an Auditor answer this with a parent and he quickly said no.
Not that an agent isn’t important but his particular school wants to know that your kid is dedicated to their program and will not be looking to do outside work while training. He also said it’s frowned upon for any of his students to miss class because of it. I’m sure that other schools may have different opinions but his tone sounded as if he were saying
“well you seem to know what you’re doing, why are you here?”. Hope this helps or at least lets you hear one side of it Good luck with all of your auditions! we are doing many as well and they seem to be crammed together except for a couple in NYC (because we’re crammed at unifeds )
We didn’t put D’s agent on her college audition resume for exactly the reason @actingdreams said: we were afraid the auditors would think she’d be auditioning while in college and leave if she got an opportunity, and they want kids who will stick with the program all four years.
We DID put S agent on the resume and it was a mistake. We added it at the very last minute with the advice of a trusted advisor and it turned out to be a mistake. Most of the questions the auditors asked my S revolved around whether my S would leave college for a professional opportunity (as others have mentioned). The reality is, a number of my S friends (who entered college with no agent) left for professional work. It is an impossible question to answer unless and until you are actually faced with the issue so why force yourself to answer it in advance? I would leave it off.
