Class of 2023 Admissions

My daughter applied early action as an international freshman and got accepted on 15th November. Her portal was updated on January 05th with an international tuition award of $18,000 per year. We were looking for the $24,000 award which will equate the international tuition to in-state since that is what we can afford. Has anyone got a full tuition waiver award or an adjustment to in-state based on their academic achievements and TEST scores? My daughter applied for Economics, has a SAT score of 1430 and a GPA calculated by us to be around 3.9 (I say calculated since our country’s system does not provide a GPA but only percentages by subject). She has a lot of extracurriculars like state level swimming and is an accomplished drummer.

Congratulations. Did you get any updates on scholarships?

I was accepted into the Residential College of Arts and Humanities, however, I meant to apply to the College of Arts and Sciences at MSU. Can that be changed?

OOS Mechanical Engr. Legacy. 1510 SAT; 4.0 UW GPA.

$$$ scholarship/honor college/professorship research + $5k toward study aboard.

Invited to ADS competition.

@parentofsix, if I may ask, how much was the scholarship amount per year? Our D17 got $18K per year with somewhat lesser stats than yours and we were planning to ask the school for some more grants, else we may have to give MSU a miss due to affordability issues.

Just a heads up everyone, if you’re not planning on attending MSU, make sure to cancel your admission so somebody else can have that spot!!! It seems like they waitlisted a ton for fall this year. Guess the common app made it more competitive. (:

Hi,

I haven’t received any admission decision yet. I’m an OOS student from California, applying as a business major. I applied 12/25 and still have not received anything from them…?

My stats are:

  • 3.3 unweighted GPA, 3.78 weighted
  • 25 ACT
  • bunch of extracurriculars (DECA, French club, Best Buddies, Speech and Debate Varsity Team officer positions in all)
  • internship geared towards major
  • good common app essay

Would it be because of my stats? Someone please advise.
Thank you

can you not be a direct admit to business school? i know it says that everyone is given “Business - Preference” on their app so does that mean you have to apply again in order to be admitted?

@Snappy00 Nobody is direct admit to business. You apply to the business school and then you apply for your maor. So there are actually 2 steps. It is outlined on their website.

@shahk3949 I recommend calling to touch base with an admissions rep. since you haven’t heard anything yet.

@shahk3949 I would not be too worried. I applied for business also and got in with lower stats than you (I’m OOS too). I had a 3.66 W and 1170 SAT. I would say the reason you probably don’t have a response is because you waited too long to apply. I had the admitted students meeting in January and they said that it was there highest yield ever so I think some people with better scores don’t have a response yet since they weren’t expecting this high of a turnout. I’d expect you to get in but it don’t be surprised if it’s after May 1st because you definitely have the stats to get in but they are probably waiting for more people to decline their offer

Another note, Did you take precal or calculus? Seems like colleges really care about this for business majors (I was deferred by a lot of schools because they wanted to make sure I was doing fine in precalc).

Is there an accepted students group me or facebook page? I’m currently looking for a roommate!

ACCEPTED !!!
In state !!!
I did horrible on my sat and act but managed to get in SAT:980 ACT:17
GPA:3.3

Other relavent information: I would strongly encourage everyone to work on your essay because MSU looks more into your essay but they do of course look into your grades and scores . But I strongly recommend to put yourself out there in the essay because they want to know your potential.
