There’s no national master list that’s publicly released – just lists by state/region that are published by the media, not the National Merit people. (National Merit sends the lists to them.) So it’s whenever a particular news outlet in a region puts it up.
Thank you!
Just returned from the award ceremony at my daughter’s school. 10% of the class are NMSFs this year. Can confirm the selection index in Texas is 219.
Is that a normal number of NMSF coming from your school?
The number fluctuates every year and the average is about 55 out of 700. This year is above average.
Meanwhile, my kid is actually going to be on the news tonight because our school hasn’t had one in over 6 years, and this year they actually have two! HA HA!
Finally got her letter today!
Other than in awards, is there a section/field to enter your PSAT score in UC and/or commonapp?
No there isn’t. You should not enter your score by itself but you can include NM Commended/Semi-finalist as an award on either application. The UC application has more space for awards and extracurricular activities than the Common App does.
Still haven’t been notified by school but son’s name was listed in local paper. None of the other students have been notified either. When is the application for NMF due? The school has several NMSF every year so they are very familiar with the process (we do have a new guidance counselor).
Not a surprise, but USC half-tuition award confirmed for class of 2023 NMFs.
It’s fine to leave it undecided until the spring. But what happened to my kid was that they were awarded a corporate NMS award (note: we parents were not employees of said corporation, so we had no idea this was even going to be a possibility) and it had to be accepted by a specific deadline…and that deadline was BEFORE all their acceptances/rejections from schools had arrived. Their school’s NMS award would’ve actually been more money than the corporate award but we didn’t find out about the acceptance until after the deadline.
University of Missouri’s National Merit award actually went up somewhat this year (a rarity). Last year for OOS it was “full reduction of nonresidential fees” to in-state, plus $1000 – around $19,600 per year. This year, it was raised to $22,500 OOS. (In-state is still full tuition plus ~$25k over four years.)
USC has an EA deadline of Nov 1 to be considered for merit scholarships.
It is frustrating that USC has tied its scholarships to its brand new EA option which will prevent many students from being eligible for them.
It will be interesting to see if they offer the half tuition NM scholarship to any NMF who apply RD.
USF and UCF have still not acknowledged their NMF Scholarships. Hmmmm!
My son did sign up on the USF hub for more NMSF information — the PDF he auto-received said free ride for all, but it was pretty generic so I don’t necessarily think it’s been updated for this year.

National Merit Semi-finalists are awarded $20,000 ($5,000 per year) until they are officially classified as National Merit Finalist and select USF as their first-choice school.|
