Usually that means a decision is forthcoming. Not always, but usually. Also, just for others reading this - this message does not always appear before a decision. So if you see it, it usually means things are moving along with your application. But if you don’t see it, it doesn’t really mean anything. If that makes sense.
This is just another example of the randomness of the process. Sometimes people’s pictures change before a decision, sometimes they don’t. Penn State likes to keep us guessing!

everything about this process is maddening! So many little things that get noticed and then they can mean something or nothing at all.
Ugh I applied in late September this wait is so long lol I thought that since I applied rolling that I’d hear back in like a month but i guess not lol
Just for the few of you that keep making an innocent faux pas :
Penn State is “State” or “PSU” but never, ever, ever “Penn”
Penn is the nickname for the Ivy League school in Philadelphia, The University of Pennsylvania. (It’s ok, I can’t keep Michigan and Michigan State straight)
Penn Staters are aghast and amused if you slap “Penn” on anything related to Dear Ol State (another PSU nickname)
Good luck everyone! remember that sometimes there are computer malfunctions and system crashes, all unrelated to your acceptance! Hang in there!

Portal was updated first before Holiday. Letter in mail (And email) came later on Friday.
I applied on october 30th and my transcripts weren’t sent from my school until the second week of november. I applied to bellesario with a 95.7 gpa, 1290 SAT, leadership of the largest mini THON in pa, as well as many large leadership positions, clubs, and volunteer activities, and multiple letters of recommendation. i’m worried my decision was pushed because i did not answer the optional personal statement as I thought it was the same as my larger commonapp essay/personal statement that i already submitted. does anyone know when decisions may be released and if i could still be admitted without the optional personal statement?
Will we get an email from penn state saying that they made a decision or do we just keep checking the website?
For Penn State i am pretty sure they won’t send you email when the Portal has been updated. But you can still receive the physical mail if you don’t check your online portal, just a few days after the portal changes

I submitted my application on 11/1/2020 to Penn State, but I haven’t receive any updates since then. Does that mean it’s a rejection?

Not at all, the only thing that means rejection is them saying that you are denied. For the rest of it there seems to be no rhyme or reason in how they are sending out acceptances.

I submiited my appliction in mid october and haven’t heard anything… no news is good news
In Michigan it’s “Michigan” or “ Sparty”… LOL.

I don’t believe for one second anyone associated with a B1G school doesn’t know the difference between Michigan and Michigan State, lol.

@jlhpsu You have mentioned many times about the admissions process (and the randomness) which has been super helpful. I’m wondering if you have any different insight on the admissions process for the nursing program. I noticed on the PSU website that the deadline to submit apps for nursing is 11/30. But, how does that work with those that applied EA? I haven’t seen any “acceptance posts” for any nursing majors. It seems like maybe they wait until all nursing apps are received before putting out acceptances. My daughter is waiting patiently (me not as patiently) and wanted to know if you had any extra insight. She has a great GPA and a borderline SAT. Thanks!
My daughter was accepted today. We found out by checking the portal. She hasn’t yet received an email!

If your transcript didn’t arrive by November 1 then you aren’t an EA applicant. You will get a decision by Jan 31.
