Class of 2025 Admissions DISCUSSION

can you explain this? everything was submitted before the November 15th deadline and I got a confirmation for early action.

Livbonz,
Maybe I can help shed some light on jlhpsu’s reply. First of all, PSU doesn’t accept transcripts (FYI… PSU also does not accept LORs as well). One is only to complete the SRAR along with an application. PSU will only request an official transcript after one is accepted and at the end of their senior year. As long as one submits (and the college receives) the application, test scores, and the SRAR before 11/15/20 this year, one is considered EA applicant and will hear a decision (or deferral) by 12/24/20.
Hope that clarifies any confusion!

@livbonz Oh yes, I messed up! I forgot they extended the deadline to Nov 15! And when you said “transcripts” in my head I’m thinking SRAR. This is what I get for trying to answer while in line at Target!
redPen21 is exactly right. Good luck!

hahah you scared me for a second! i got my SARS in early october and my school just automatically sends them to every school that i apply to. thank you for the clarification!!

@livbonz
You have to use SRAR link to link to PSU
I hope you followed these instructions to send transcripts for PSU

@HKMmom Nursing is probably the most competitive program at PSU - and if your D hasn’t heard yet, I wouldn’t worry. I believe they wait until all applications are in before making any decisions - So if the nursing deadline is 11/30, then I would occupy myself somewhere else. Not sure how the EA deadline works with nursing.

Just so you know - 2 years ago (I think) - nursing took an extra week to make their decisions, so all the nursing applicants were that much more stressed. They got an email on 1/31 telling them it would be another week (I think that’s when all answers were heard by 2/1, so maybe not an EA year).

good luck. my only advice is that no news means nothing other than no news.

So does PSU do it by major? Mine went in undecided and no word yet

@lucy_van_pelt - thanks for the response. I figured as much but still wanted to ask. Luckily she has acceptances at 2 other schools but, of course, her heart is set on Penn State! I know the waiting is the hardest part and we all just want the best for our kids

Can anyone confirm based on past history that there is only one update per day for decisions? I think I read midnight?
Thank you!

Not necessarily. Penn State tells people it’s only once per day but that has proven to be untrue. Especially when you get closer to decision deadline, the portal has updated multiple times per day in the past.

Thank you!

Penn State primarily does it by college (Engineering vs. Liberal Arts). So, for Nursing, you are applying to College of Nursing.

Different colleges have different acceptance rates and statistics.

I’m a current senior in high school who applied ea to penn state for eberly school of science on October 23rd but have not heard anything and its been almost 6 weeks and it says the same, “we have everything needed to complete your application once we reach a decision it will be posted here.” Anyone know if waiting this long is bad…or know if I will likely find out by December 24th?

I applied early october for eberly too and mine says the same thing. decisions are random but all ea applicants are guaranteed a decision by the 24th. no news is good news we just have to wait it out!

My daughter applied OOS in mid-October for Agricultural Sciences (Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences). Her portal says the exact same thing as yours. It would be so great to hear before Dec. 24, but who knows? Hang in there!

My D applied EA to Eberly 9/21 and she still has the same message on her portal. It’s still early.

No, waiting this long is not bad. My daughter applied August 3rd and is still waiting on a decision. In the past, decisions usually trickle out and then there will be a ton of decisions near the deadline. In this case, with the deadline being Dec 24, I’m expecting a ton of decisions to drop in the two weeks prior to that. Lots of students hear on the deadline date as well.
Keep in mind, a decision can be anything from an admit to UP, admit to commonwealth campus, denial, or deferral to the next application cycle with decisions by Jan 31.

@jlhpsu is acceptance to summer 2021 common/possible for EA applicants?

Not sure, I heard with Covid they are not offering the Summer program, but not 100% sure

A couple of years ago I’d have said NO because lots of applicants were deferred to regular decision a couple of cycles ago. But looking at last year’s decision thread, there were acceptances to both fall and summer in the EA and many offers to the commonwealth campuses rather than UP. They seemed to do less deferring last year.

That said, I have no idea if they are doing summer this year. My guess is yes given that a vaccine is going to be available. My best guess is that they will require the COVID vaccine just as they require meningitis. They make A LOT of money for summer session so I think they will try to have it no matter what. But that’s just a guess.

Short answer: Yes. A summer acceptance is possible for EA applicants.
