Yes he did. It worked out but he needs to start in the summer.

Thank you so much! I was wondering how he went about pursuing the reeval? He went on the portal and the only email was for the admissions office. Should he just politely ask? lol Sorry this is my first born going through this in this crazy time. I’d love for him to be able to attend his first choice at University Park. Thank you so much for any advice you can give.

We called up the admissions office and asked to be reevaluated for summer entrance at UP. we found out about a week ago. We asked to be reevaluated before Christmas.

We were only asking to be re-evaluated by major but did it via the email listed on the portal. Good luck!

Thank you so much for your response! The only email we see on the portal is the general email for the admissions office. Are we missing something? How did your child make out? Thank you again!!

Re-evaluation was successful. On the portal it says:

“ The following list represents the most current information we have about your application choices. Please contact us at admissions@psu.edu or 814-865-5471 if you would like to make any changes.”

My daughter sent an email to admissions@psu.edu and they responded within a few days saying they were going to submit her app for reconsideration.

They are very nice in that office from our experience.

Edited to add: you will have a much better chance at UP if you are not applying for a tough major. I would avoid Engineering, Smeal and maybe even DUS if you really want UP but I’m far from an expert. Good luck!

For those of you who “appealed” 2+2 with a successful outcome, how long did you have to wait to hear back? My dd got Altoona but reapplied with a different major and we’re waiting.
I have to say, and I’ve seen it said here before, this whole process leaves a bad taste in my mouth & my dd is pretty much over PSU. As we browsed other majors it just felt like- if she has to change what she’s interested in, maybe it’s not the place for her.
Anyway, pls lmk how long it took to get a response. Thx!

My daughter waited 4 weeks

He needs to change majors and/or ask for summer session (which is a great opportunity… but also an expensive one).
If you provide us with his original major, APs taken as well as evidence of curriculum rigor or points of academic strength, and unweighted GPA, we can help you by suggesting alternate majors.
Once you’re equiped with ONE new major choice and whether Summer session is a possibility or necessity, he calls and asks to be reconsidered for (new major) and/or summer session.

Took five weeks for my D to receive a decision to her request for reevaluation from Eberly UP summer to DUS UP fall. Decision: admitted to DUS, UP, fall 2021.

My D wasn’t married to her original major and PSU is her second choice school. Due to finances and the fact she’s still waiting for her first choice decision, she is most likely to attend PSU. For her, it was worth the trouble, for others in a different situation, maybe not.

@MYOS1634 Question regarding our quick convo. Do you think it’s a good idea to an email asking for recon. and say that I’ll stick with my original major if it doesn’t work? Or should I wait for orientation since I will be able to switch then?

In your case, I think waiting for orientation is the least risky.
(The change of major is always from most requested/competitive to less requested/competitive).

anyone know when we will receive our aid info?

Don’t expect any, except for the 5.5K federal loan and whatever PHEAA you may be eligible for. :frowning:

but you know how some schools send a packet explaining how much you have to pay and breakdown yearly costs things like that, when does that come?

Last year this was available on the portal by mid Feb if I remember correctly.

We just received notice that the Financial Aid award is available in the portal. Very surprised to see a small scholarship ($2,000/year) renewable for the first four semesters if a GPA of 3.0 is maintained. We were very pleasantly surprised.

So this is a two-year scholarship (not four year). There was no notification about this award; it was just there in the Financial Aid portal. Anyone familiar with this? Thank you.

We also have a financial aid award of $5500 for the year. How do I know if this is a loan or for merit?
