Hi,
I got into 2+2 at Abington for engineering. I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge on asking to get reconsidered for DUS. Also if I did get into UP for DUS is it any different than it would if I got in for Engineering. Lastly, would you recommend, Harrisburg, Altoona, or Abington for engineering 2+2?
Thanks
@jlhpsu
Is it a bad sign if it is taking longer for my decision to come out?
- don’t expect merit. Unlike most public universities, PSu has very very few merit scholarships (for PA residents OR OOS students).
Now’s the time to calculate whether you can afford PSU out of pocket (from income and savings) without any financial/merit aid beside the 5.5K federal loan, and set expectations for your child - basically, something like “we’re so proud you got in, but if financial and merit aid don’t bring net costs to $XXX, then unfortunately it has to come off the table”. It’s less painful for the kid if they know right away, especially with PSu. (If merit aid comes, then it’s a good surprise). - That being said, you have to check your portal. You’ll see, first, federal financial aid (loans, Pell Grants if you’re eligible) and PA/PHEAA grants. Some scholarships have an interview weekend scheduled (Millenium scholars: Feb 26-27 for instance), others have December “zoom” interviews scheduled… results are rarely given before March. You can also email the college your child was admitted to and ask if they have college-specific scholarships they can apply to.
So, even if your child has been admitted, they have to continue applying to other colleges and their scholarships, running the NPC, etc, because the information on PSu scholarships is too late for them to apply to other, more affordable colleges after merit aid is announced.
Congratulations!! If you don’t mind share the stats and major ?
Do majority of EA results come out on Dec 15th? I keep hearing a bunch of stuff about the 15th and I don’t know if it’s true or not
What school?
No answer yet is just that, nothing yet.
Stay ,+
hi, test optional, 3.55 gpa and engineering
@sfitter71 Did your D apply directly to Altoona or did she apply to UP and Altoona was her 2nd choice?
Thats cool, we have scores and higher GPA haven’t heard the decision bit nervous you think we should call the admissions office?
I wouldn’t worry till Christmas time!
@NJcollege2021 my friend did call the office to ask about what order the decisions were being released and they said all EA applicants will hear a decision by 12/24. I assume since that is Christmas Even that perhaps it could be sooner, but I would think unless you haven’t heard by 12/25 they will just tell you to wait.
What I’m also not sure about that maybe one of the veterans on here would know is if one of the decision is deferral into the regular applicant pool. Some colleges defer more than others. Not sure where PSU stands on that.
@skkm0906 thanks for the info. I heard the same all EA decisions out by 12/24 making me nervous day by day with good scores and stats still waiting. Hope we all hear soon
Good luck to all waiting for decisions
@NJcollege2021 same here, waiting for business decision with good scores/grades. It doesn’t seem like a lot of business has dropped though, so I cling to that for it’s not a bad thing we haven’t heard.
same
Two cycles ago, they did push a lot of applicants into regular decisions. Less so last year - and this year, I’ve already seen a bunch of 2+2 and summer acceptances so I don’t think they are doing much deferring.
Decisions are out by Dec 24. It doesn’t matter whatsoever if you haven’t heard yet. It means nothing…keep telling yourself that! 11 days at the longest left to wait - hang in there!

It just messes with my nerves wondering why others have heard and we haven’t regardless of the thought that the process is random. It doesn’t seem that it’s random with other schools my DD applied to and has been accepted to so far. So it begs the question, why is PSU different?
We didn’t receive the decision yet but something changed on the Son portal
Honors application button taken out and now 2 days later “Millennium Scholars application” pops up with Dec-21 due date
What we supposed to do apply don’t apply ? does this mean we got admission ?
so confusing … anyone have an idea STEM students ?
The honors college applications were due 12/4, so I’m sure that’s why that disappeared.
What about “Millennium Scholars application” since we don’t have decision don’t bother ?
