Class of 2025 Admissions DISCUSSION

Congrats everyone!!! If I still haven’t received a decision should I try calling admisions to see if i’m still qualified for ea?

ah okay thanks!

If that’s what it says then most probably you should hear by tomorrow…

You can call today and explain you’re from California, would like to be reconsidered for…

What was your major?
Or just say Dus.

But California has lots of strong universities, which would likely be less expensive than Psu.

When do they let you know about merit aid? I know not much if anything but

Penn state doesn’t really offer merit aid, except very specific programs like Millenium Scholars and Schreyer.

Yeah that’s what I heard. I’ll have to see what financial aid I get but I don’t think it’s going to be affordable as OOS :slightly_frowning_face:

Financial aid will be 5.5k loan.
Even instate there’s not much more aid.
:frowning:

I think i remember youre from Ca, so, just in case – California has excellent financial aid (blue&gold, etc) so make sure to apply to everything instate, deadlines are strict.

You can run the NPC for every university to get an idea of net costs (look up “penn state npc”).

If you know you won’t attend let them kbow promptly so that they can make an iffer to someone else who will bless your heart. :hugs:

Is it possible to ask if I can switch campuses? like from schuylkill to Altoona

Do you think that if one was accepted 2+2 or summer that later on Admissions might give you a Fall UP offer (without you asking), if they happen to have a lower acceptance yield than expected?

Thanks.

Gook luck @pratty!

Everything is virtual. And honestly, town is shut down.

However, having warned you that - you can go walk around campus and check out the town. Campus and town are divided by College Avenue - park on College and walk campus.

Penn State is like a large rectangle - with sports facilities on the outside perimeter. That would be Beaver Stadium, Jordan Center, Pegula Arena on the east side of campus. On the west side is Rec Hall. Go one layer in and you hit dorm complexes - East Halls in one corner, then South Halls along College Ave. border, West Halls near Rec Hall and North along the other border (Park Avenue). Pollock Halls are near south. Freshmen mostly live in East but can be sprinkled throughout.

In the middle of the box is the HUB (Hetzel Union Building) - a central spot for students with the on-campus bookstore, dining options, student activity offices, and places to study. Nearby is Old Main. And walk up the double row of Elm Trees and you will see Pattee and Paterno Library.

I would recommend the Creamery, except I think it is closed. If you are in the mood for ice cream, try Meyer Dairy on the outskirts of town.

No visit to campus is complete without walking around the Arboretum. It is one of my new favorite places on campus and just across Park Ave. from the Business Building.

I would encourage you to park and walk. If you have a dog, he would love campus. Ours chases squirrels. And bunnies. And ducks in the little pond in front of Hintz Alumni Center. He can be a menace, but oh, how he loved it during the shutdown in spring!

Won’t say that it can’t happen, but have not seen it happen. If anything, they would admit off the waitlist.

Your best bet is to call Admissions and ask for reconsideration.

Yes, that’s definitely an option. You can call and ask for a residential campus for your major such as Altoona or Behrend

No. That will not happen. If you got summer you were already evaluated for fall and denied. If you got 2+2 then you were likewise denied UP fall or summer.
They will not offer those students fall UP in that case. Summer and 2+2 are not waiting list offers. They are offers for what they’ve offered you and that’s it.

My daughter was accepted to Smeal 2+2 (Altoona) Accounting. My question is do they automatically finish the degree at University Park after two years? Or do they have to meet certain requirements for GPA, etc?

To continue into Smeal at UP at end of sophomore year, everyone…whether at UP or commonwealth campus, has to meet the entry to major requirements for their major. It’s the same classes regardless of starting campus. If those requirements aren’t met then the student would need to change their major to move up to UP or choose to stay in that major at the commonwealth campus IF that campus has that major in a 4 year option.
