So now that my son is accepted to UP campus how does he have to do senior year? What are grade requirements for senior year? Just want to make sure senioritis does not get him in trouble.

It’s probably easier to meet etm reqs at a branch campus, unless youve already taken ap calc, ap stats, ap econ, and ap English language which would allow to skip some of the weedout classes .

No D no F, no cheating no crime, and graduating high school in 2021.

I got this:-
“Your decision has been deferred to the November review group. This means you will have a decision by January 31. The need to defer your decision will not negatively impact your chances of being accepted to Penn State. Due to application volume, the Undergraduate Admissions Office needs more time to review your application. This extra time will ensure that the decision you receive by January 31 is the correct admission decision. We thank you for your patience. No further action is required by you at this time.”
Am I defered because of high app volume or is this the normal defer message everyone receives
IS THIS THE NORMAL DEFERAL MESSAGE EVERYONE RECEIVES OR IS IT REALLY DUE TO HIGH APP VOLUME

It sounds like a normal deferral message. From what my son’s college counselors have said a deferral is not a bad thing, it only means they need more time to determine the best decision or to see more (like first semester grades)

Was that just on your portal or did you get an email?

Will there be decisions tonght?

This is for Up as well? Just no Ds or Fs etc?

My son received that exact message earlier today. I tend to think it is not a “deferral decision” but more like delayed due to volume of applications. I think deferred was wrong choice of words for them to use. I do not think they would normally cite to application volume in all “deferred decisions”. I take a true “deferred decision” as them taking action on the application by putting it aside for later review because the student did not qualify on first look. I don’t get that sense from the message, but I could be wrong :frowning:

yes, for all of Penn State, including UP. They won’t check senior grades unless they’re D or F, and of course any criminal activity or cheating would result in being rescinded.
However doing well to prepare for college and getting 4 or 5 in AP exams would be very important for a smooth transition.

A deferral with that wording would be a deferral because they ran out of time - not a deferral because the stats weren’t good enough for EA admit. EA at Penn State isn’t really like that. It’s actually easier to get in during EA because spots aren’t taken yet. So rest easy - even if rightfully annoyed - that it’s a deferral due to time constraints and not the application itself.

I applied on November 1st to PSU. I still have not gotten back my decision, and the student portal says “requested early action?: no”. Does anyone know what this means? I turned in the application, SRAR, and FAFSA all on time so idk y it is saying I am not EA. I really just want my decision back I am tired of stressing…

Daughter was accepted yesterday to Smeal, Marketing Major- University Park Campus! Good Luck to everyone else waiting to hear.

When you submitted your original app was it EA yes ? Check in your common app ?

it says “preferred admissions plan: rolling admissions”. oh god does that mean it’s not EA??

Yes sadly that’s not EA

Mine originally applied rolling as she thought it would be faster. She emailed them to switch to EA back in November

This happened to my daughter because she selected “rolling” I stead of EA. I had to call the admissions office so they could put her application in a different “pool”, then it changed from no to yes.

We thought the same thing but we were wrong. When I called the admissions office I was told it’s better to apply EA because there are less applicants. :woman_shrugging:
