My school doesn't really do class ranking. However, it does submit the transcripts of the top 12.5% of students to the University of California System and they choose the Top 4% from the school to designate as being "Eligible in a Local Context" for guaranteed admission into a UC School. The schools I apply to won't be able to see my class rank, but I know I must be in the top 4% becuase I got ELC. Should I note this somewhere on the common app? Will it make a difference?

I think it's worth noting, since you school doesn't rank. I'd guess your guidance counselor would have included it in his/her rec, but you might check.

Where or how would this be noted on the Common App?

well, i know of some schools that do not release rankings to students, but upon request for your college apps, they'll "magically" pull out a ranking for you. if your school could send the transcripts of the top 12.5% of students to the UCs, doesn't that already tell you that they have a ranking... somewhere. if you ask your GC, he might be able to give you the ranking.

Hmm...I know my ranking, but it's not official, so I can't put it. That's why noting ELC could be a good idea for those in my situation.

You dont have to note it, they already know. They sent you a letter right? They did for me, telling me that i had ELC.

Sorry, I mean I want the Common App colleges to know, so they can tell I'm in the top 4%, not just top 10%. My UC apps were done a long time ago and I could care less right now! ;)

UC ranking is based on what classes are UC acceptable and UC honors approved. So, ranking from one college to another differs.
