Since the admissions literature gives the average GPA and rank of those who receive merit scholarships, what happens to applicants whose high school does not provide rank? Will BU contact the guidance counselors of hundreds of potential scholarship recipients to find out rank? (I would think not.) Any current BU students/parents have prior experience with this? Thanks.

It's not the students fault that their high school may not provide rank, so I highly doubt that those students are left out of consideration for merit scholarships. They'll probably take your GPA into account and if possible compare that to other GPAs at your high school.

I hope you're right. Thanks.

They look at whether you qualify as a semi-finalist or finalist for national merit scholarships. And that varies by state, with a place like New Jersey having a much higher number needed to qualify than many other states.
