Receiving Scholarships

How difficult to receive are the various scholarships that Boston University offers?

I know that they list minimum requirements for their scholarships on their site, but are stats/characteristics of students who actually receive the scholarships significantly higher than the requirements? Or do most students who meet requirements earn the scholarship money?

You mean the Dean's and other merit scholarships? They give them based on your file, as far as I can tell. And they seem to use unweighted gpa, which may not be fair. Oh, and the awards are renewable if you keep a 3.0 gpa.

I thought the University Scholarship required a 3.2 GPA to renew. Did this standard change?

No, I mistyped. I think the minimum for the Dean's is 3.0 but each varies slightly. I was in a hurry.

What exactly do you mean "they give them based on your file?"

Merit scholarships are based on your grades and standardized test scores. The statistics on the financial aid website are a good guide.

So if my GPA/Rank/SAT scores match the requirements on the financial aid website I have a good chance of getting one of those merit scholarships?

Yes. Early Decision candidates have priority consideration for the University Scholarship, but I think many are awarded. From the BU website:

In addition to early notification of admission, students who are admitted under Early Decision I or II will be given:

* Priority consideration for housing

 • Priority consideration for the half-tuition University Scholarship

S has the University Scholarship and was admitted Early Decision. (That's not why he applied ED, though--- he loved BU and it was the right fit). But he has several friends who were accepted RD who also have the scholarship.

All true.

Just a guess, but it appears they give financial aid as the first choice, then a merit scholarship.

Could someone post the link for the merit scholarships (where the requirements are listed)?
Thanks
