Class rank percentile?

I just found out that my class rank dropped (in a bad way) a lot. I am now ranked 32 out of 1089 students. I recalculated this rank as a percentile, and found out I was still just inside the top 3%.

Will colleges actually recalculate rank to a percentile form? Or will they just see "Class Rank: 32 out of 1089" on the transcript? Or is it more like "Oh he looks like he's roughly in the top 5%"? I guess it may not even matter

I know it seems a little stupid to ask, especially since there is nothing I can do to change it. But I'm still curious as to how it works. I mean even though 'rank 32' doesn't look that amazing, as a percentile (top 3%) it would be kind of like a person ranked 9 out of 300. So I suppose colleges must account for the difference, but I haven't seen much info regarding it. Any feedback would be appreciated

It gets used as a percentile (except for very small schools).
