Class Rank vs. Unweighted GPA in admissions process/kind of a chance

<p>Hey Everyone,</p>

<p>I am a sophomore, and currently I have at 3.625ish UW GPA, but I am in the top 5% of my class. The first semester this year I got 3 Bs and 1 A in honors classes, and the most recent semester I got 3 As and one B, in an AP class (I got 2 As in two APs, and one A in an honors). Because of my most recent semester, my class rank catapulted along with my UW GPA. Will Davidson care more about my UW GPA, or my class rank which went up a lot over the last semester, granting the fact that I got As in AP classes? After junior year, I calculated that I would have a 3.75 UW and be in the top 2% of my class, if I got all As. I know that 3.75 is lower than normal, but would they still find it credible, because of my upward trend from my last semester? If you are wondering, my SAT is upwards of 2100, and I have pretty good ECS (great research internship, leadership in various organizations, and singing in national and international venues).
I eventually want to do pre med.</p>

<p>I had a 3.6 when I applied to Davidson and I was barely top 10% (however, I went to a highly competitive large magnet school) with 2200+ SATs and fairly good extracurriculars. Your GPA alone shouldn’t keep you out. Although it might be a little weak, you’re still competitive for admission. They look more at your course schedule than your GPA to see if you’ve been taking rigorous courses; they would like you to excel in these rigorous courses but they won’t penalize you much if you have a (relatively) low GPA but a very rigorous schedule. Still, do your best, as an upward trend never hurts! Also, you’re a sophomore! A lot can change in the next two years. While it’s nice to think about colleges now, you never know how you’ll change with regards to college choice.</p>

<p>I’m with ya, I have a 3.65 GPA and am in the top 4% of my class. I think my school is fairly competitive as it’s a large public magnet. </p>

<p>Its unweighted though. My academic core GPA is 4.0 and my weighted is 4.65</p>
