Is my class rank OK?

My class rank is 3 of 119, with a 3.97 weighted GPA, and a 3.6 unweighted. Is my GPA and class rank high enough to get into UW-Madison? The person that is #2, has a 4.05 weighted GPA, and a 3.71 unweighted. Also, I’m a junior that is currently taking 5 AP classes.

@Cool7364 i don’t think you have anything to worry about. It’s a great accomplishment. The colleges usually look at your class rank as of the end of junior year. They won’t really consider senior year class rank, applications already in at that point.

GPA itself matters more than class rank.

I disagree, class rank is very important because it shows what your competition looks like. Being in the top 3 is great, it shows you’re competitive against your peers. The weighted gpa seems low, but I’m not sure what weighted curriculum your school has to offer.

The person that’s #1 has a 4.3 weighted.
The person that’s #2 has a 4.05 weighted.
Freshmen and sophomore year I only took 2 ap classes, this year I’m taking 5. An A counts as a 5.0, and B, a 4.0 and so forth.

That seems like quite a drop off between numbers 1, 2 and 3. Is this a non traditional school? I think your class rank looks great, but your weighted gpa will be lower than many students you are applying against.

@socalmom007 Its a traditional school. I don’t know, but there’s a huge gap between me and the person who is ranked 4, in which he has a 3.7 weighted GPA, and a 3.4 unweighted.

GPA is taken in the context of your school, you are in the top 5% so no worries.
