weighted or unweighted?

hey guys.

so i'm freaking out a bit about gpa--my unweighted is around a 3.2 (eek!) but my weighted is a full point higher. if you look at any of my previous posts, you'll see there're reasons for why the unweighted is so low. but i'm still unsure of which one colleges will look at more frequently.

anybody know?

I’m in a similar boat although my UW is higher than yours. You have to choose your schools pretty carefully. A lot just look at UW, or even core UW and for you and me those might be out of reach. You need to look for schools that say in their websites that they look at weighted, consider rigor, evaluate your grades in the context of the difficulty of your courses, that sort of thing. Most schools have this info somewhere on their websites, but it requires some digging. Another way to figure it out your chances is looking at common data sets.

it’s just confusing, since william & mary says that 75% of their incoming freshman class had a GPA over 3.75. is it possible that they’re full of near-straight a kids, or is it that the number they report is weighted?

Your best bet is to call W&M right now, and find out.

I’d like to know the answer to this as well, though my bet is that the 3.75 represents UW GPA.
