Hi there folks!
Im gonna try to keep this simple. Basically I transferred to a top private school in my sophmore year. For freshmen, I went to my local public school. Since I will be applying for colleges soon, class rank is starting to confuse and worry me. Just how is my private school gonna rank me? Are they gonna exempt my freshmen year and just rank me based on my sophmore, junior, and senior grades? PLZ help im kinda confused ;/

It depends on the school. Ask a guidance counselor at your private school.

“Ask a guidance counselor at your private school.”

@cottonkk This is one of the things your parents are paying the big bucks for. Take advantage of it.

Definitely ask, but often if they are accepting the credits towards graduation, the classes at the other school will be included in the GPA calculation and therefore class rank.

Right, you have to ask your hs, which has its own policies. And not all private schools rank.

Let me look into my crystal ball and… JK. Ask your HS GC. We would just be guessing. Go to the source.

Many, if not most, private schools do not rank.

@T26E4 lol yeah its almost $50,000/yr to go XD

I am in the exact same circumstance. My school may be different, but it ranks based on the GPA only from my years at that school. It’s actually very helpful because the weighted GPA from AP courses sophomore and junior year are a major GPA boost when freshman year isn’t considered.
Best of luck!
