I have a question about ranking: how does the school counselor rank the students? For example, I attend in a small private school where my junior class had only 10 students, including me. And I'm guessing I'm around the top 3 out of 9 students..so will my counselor just calculate 3 divided by 9, which is 33%? Or is there another calculation that the counselor use?

*Althought I'm the 3rd in line, the 2nd person in line will not take calculus course next year in senior, while I'll definitely take it. Will this rigorous course somehow impress and improve my rank status? Or will the colleges not even care?
-Thanks for your input!

Many private schools do not rank students or calculate GPA. They just provide course information and your grades to colleges. Most private schools' college counselors know admission officers very well. Those colleges should know your school's grading system and difficulties of your courses. Speak with your counselor.

Well, I've asked some of my close graduated seniors, and they told me that our high school counselor did provide them with GPA and lists of semester grades. But I'm not perfectly sure about the class rank but assuming that my counselor does send the rank, do you think 3 out of 9 students is acceptable to top 50 colleges or is this too low?
