So the common app gives you a few choices to report class rank: the ones I’m looking at are percentiles and exact numbers. I went to my counselor and all she let me know that I was top 1% of my class, but in a class of 300 that means I’m either 1 2 or 3. I’m 100% certain I know my rank, but I don’t officially have it. So that leaves me to report my rank by top 10%, but I would obviously prefer to report the 1% of actual rank if I could. Do I just concede and choose the top decile? Do counselors mention the exact class rank in their letter of recs?
Does your school rank? It doesn’t sound like it. Don’t report something that you don’t know for sure. Just report the decile if you know that. Your counselor could mention it in more detail in his/her letter.
If your school does not rank, no
Yes. Roughly half the HS’s in the US no longer rank; you’ll be in good company. If your GC can mention top 1% in his/her rec, that’s more than enough.
